Hi

I am not clear why you are telling me I should have read stuff before quitting. That is very presumptuous of you. I had pneumonia and nearly died..so I quit. Sorry I didn't take the time to read books or try to join here first.

There are some nice people here and others who are really bossy.

I quit cigarettes 6 days ago and now am quitting here.

I was not looking for you to tell me what to before quitting or be so rude to me

Good luck on staying quit

This is day 6. I can't even get to your website only email and you accuse me if spamming..

I will find another support place. Thanks for nothing

Jody-

Sorry you've had trouble getting to the website. I can definitely help with that. Just post more details in Community Help‌. We can troubleshoot any issues you're having over there or send an email to communityadmin@becomeanex.org.

Not one's accusing you of spamming. You've broken no rules either. The automatic signature from your Outlook App on your Android phone looks funny to some because it uses a Short URL. Short URLs often appear nonsensical and are used for tracking purposes. Since it was appended to every message it wasn't clear that this was happening because you are participating via email responses.  Microsoft puts this on the app to advertise themselves. Apparently their app isn't good enough to speak for itself.

I provided instructions via PM on how to remove this advertisement.  I realize you that you didn't know or realize that this type of advertisement was automatically included with your posts.

I understand her feeling bruised and uncomfortable.   Jody... If you need this site pls use it.  <3.  I wondered about the constant link myself.

Do what works for you please!!

No one here as the magic answer.  One small step at a time Jody. Even leaps, if you like.

Hi Dear...You can do this! I have & smoked for 48yrs. Quit date 3-27-18. Used the patch for awhile. Like the gum which I only use it now once in a while. Go for a walk. Read. Play games on puter or whatever. Call a friend. Anything but taking a step back.  You can do this! > Jeanne B

How I felt the first few days - I had a hard time like everybody else.  But I had spent a month getting my head in the right place.  I joined a support site and spent hours reading, supporting others (even though I hadn't yet quit.)  I learned that offering words of encouragement to others reinforced my own  encouraging mindset.   I was so charged up and raring to go!  Day 4 was my horror day, but the first three I was riding pretty high.  But I had techniques to try because I had educated myself.  I tried those things that were suggested that I thought would work for me.  I learned that distracting myself was helpful.  I cut up straws into cigarette size and stuffed them with little wads of paper to create a "draw"  and pretend-smoked.  I yelled at my smoking, non-stop whispering addicted brain.  OH JUST GO AWAY!  I wrote blogs, I lived on on the quit site.  I read everything I could.

You don't have to read the Carr book at work.  We mention this book all over the place here because so many have found it helpful.  There are so many "aha" moments that occur when you read it.  (Although you may not find it so.)   It helps to turn our thinking about this addiction and change our mindset.  And it's our thinking that really must be corrected in order to overcome this.  Nicotine replacement is an aid, deep breathing is an aid, Craving Buster Technique  is an aid.  If you just read as much as you can on here, you will find the answers.

Support comes in many flavors.  Those of us who have hung around here long after we've quit are here because we want to help.  What is not helpful for you, might be just the ticket for someone else.  We want you to succeed.  Because we understand the costs of this addiction.  And we love to share in others' success.

I also used the patch and day 3 was the worst! I didn’t come here until day 18. It has been 6 years since I quit.  I also smoked for 40 years. Keep at it. You can do it! During the first 3 weeks of quitting I kept a journal of how I was feeling. It really helped me. Now that your past the 3 day mark it will get easier.
