Give and get support around quitting
In the past, I would tell anyone who would listen that I quit smoking. This time, I’m keeping it to myself, at least at first...has anyone else done this?
Do what works for you - I told everyone. It helped having to be accountable but that was me. Best wishes!
I'm with you on the accountability thing! The more people who know, the less I wanted to disappoint!
I kept mine secret for awhile. My very first blog here was about it!: https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/16019-anyone-else-keeping-their-quit-kind-of-a-secret
What works for you. I told everyone; it's the accountability thing for me also.

I was always the opposite. Kept it a secret, and slowly let people know. Now I tell people who are close to me, and others, like at work, I wait a bit. I prefer not having a lot of acquaintances continually asking me about smoking.
I did not tell anyone I was quitting for two reasons. One - I was a closet smoker and only my friends knew I smoked. Two - I failed so many times it was embarrassing.
I did not tell anyone, until 3 days later when my BFF said.....
"What's wrong with you"? LoL
I said "Nothing, why"?
She said "Somethings off".....
I said "No, really, I am fine"......
She said "No, something is wrong, what's the matter"?
I said "Okay, I stopped smoking 3 days ago"...
She said " I KNEW IT,... I KNEW SOMETHING WAS OFF"!!!
We both laughed and she said "Congratulations, I am so proud of you"!
After that I told everyone at work and called my Mother in California and told her as well....
Miles of Smiles....................
Yes. For a week. Wanted to make sure I was successful to a degree before I told anyone.
That's my reasoning too!!!! I want to make sure I'm firm in my quit before I say anything...I think I'll wait till I'm about 10 days in. But here I am into Day 2 and still successful!!!!!
