Cutting down before quit date

Ok, so I have a quit date of 1/24 and I am trying to cut down before that date.  I find that I am actually smoking more, which is crazy.  I am going to do the patch.  Is it better to cut down ahead of time or just smoke like you normally do before that date?

Thank you all for the advice.  I failed on my quit date so going to change it and get myself more educated.  I thought it would be easier than it was, but I felt tired, irritable and anxious.  So I caved in and smoked.  Stress does it for me, but I also realize there will always be some kind of stress, I have to learn how to not use it as an excuse to smoke.  I am changing my quit date to Feb 1st now

Stay close and read a much as you can in the meantime.   Glad you're not giving up.  Remember to come here before you smoke--that's what we're here for.
