Day 2

Is a little easier. Just waves of cravings this morning where yesterday morning for 4 hrs I really suffered. I am questioning whether I wany to even continue with the patch after 3 days. It seems like I will just continue to put nicotine in my body when I can just go through another 3 days and be completely free and save the money. I don't want to risk smoking so I would appreciate anyone's opinion on this.

My husband said last night that he knew his smoking is a trigger for me but it really didn't seem to bother me. Like I have been able to quit drinking in spite of his drinking. I am responsible for myself and with Gods help and strength and all of you, I can do this. He has his own God.

Hoping everyone has a great smoke-free day!

Everything that I have read about quitting says that people who use the patch or other nicotine replacement products are more successful in staying quit.  I am using the patch because I still have to work, be able to deal with people, and be able to concentrate.  It really helps me - but everyone is different.  I am on day 21 and after I got thru the first  3 days, I have had relatively few cravings and urges.  Good luck to you.

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you.  I didn't use any NRT, it was suggested to me AFTER I had been smokefree for several days and that seemed like a stupid idea...to put the nicotine back into my system.

It IS your quit, you're right but having cigarettes around has to make it harder, I hope that your husband is, at the very least, smoking outside and keeping his cigarettes WITH him and away from you.  The first few days are hard enough without having someone there to undermine your progress.

Unfortunately I couldn't tolerate the patch or gum. Funny, how did i tolerate smoking!! hah. I was afraid to try the other meds. so cold turkey it has been. I figured I had to do without the nicotine eventually so sooner the better. However like Jennifer if I could've tolerated the help I would've used it!!! Either way you are NOT smoking and that is a Win Win!!!

The patch helped me thru those first few weeks. I probsbly would have gone postal on some coworkers. The step down is gradual and by the time i was at the smallest i used it for just a day or two and onward towards freedom. Everyone is different if i had been around smokers it would have been so much harder to push thru. One day at a time. Make the commitment everyday and honor your beautiful choice!!!

I can't tell you 'yes or no' , it's your decision to make!

I 've quit cold turkey because I didn't want to put more nicotine in my body, however I've heard and read that it helps a lot of people !

All the best x

Whatever works for you Connie.  You are doing great.

i used it until i learned about laughing at the craves and knowing i was far enough along.

when i forgot 2 days in a row, i let them go.

listen to your body

listen to your rational mind.

I agree, listen to you but also know several factors play into this.

When you quit nicotine all together............you again will have more cravings of course they will be less intense probably then they used to be.

You have a smoker in the home!  Mix those urges/cravings/with the fact that you know at anytime you could ask him for a cigarette.  Can you really handle it?

Can you really handle it being so new to the quit? I'm sure you're not new to quitting all together but do you want to risk it?

Good luck.

I used them for a long time probably too long- but I knew that I would not give in as long as I had one on. That does not mean I am recommending for you to continue with  it-really that is only a question that you can answer for yourself. Here is some info from a site that I found helpful:http://quitsmoking.about.com/od/nrts/a/nicotinepatch.htm

Thanks for all the good advice. I will not take the patch off until cravings have decreased and even then, if cravings come back strong, I will put one back on. I am looking forward to being nicotine free though/

Connie, I was reading Sherri's blog and saw your comments and noticed that you are back on the Freedom train, Well Welcome aboard I am glad that you decided to come back I don't know when your first quit was and nor does it matter so you slipped lots of people do some don't come back maybe because the feel embarassed or feel they let us down somehow when the let themselves down by not getting back up and working at quitting again, well you came back and I am excited about that. remember when you were young and learning how to ride your first bike well did you succeed the first time ? some do some don't, becomeing a non-smoker is the same in a way if at first you don't succeed try try again, don't worry you will succeed if you want to don't give up or you'll never know the joy of being a non-smoker. I personally quit cold turkey and my reasons are my reasons it really doesn't matter to me on how you quit as long as you want to quit. use what you want but sooner or later you will have to give up on the crutch and let go of all nicotine.

If you want to quit you will I am 50 years old and my doctor told me I was wheezing that scared me. I then found this site, you found this site find your reason to quit and hold onto it whatever it is visit this site everday morning and night.

Congratulations on your resolve to quit, now make it happen!
