I cannot breath

I like smoking!  That is the horrid part of this quit.

I like it.

Please I am not here to be battered or verbally abused.

Advice so welcome.

I'm not here to beat you up, anaussiemom‌, just offer suggestions to keep you on track now that you've quit again.

1.  You are romancing the cigarette.  You like it, you said.  Please take the time to sit and write down a list on one side of what exactly you like about it, and on the other side what you don't like i.e. why you are trying so hard to quit.

2.  What I did when I last relapsed was be fully aware of smoking that last cigarette, the taste (ugh), the harshness in the throat, the eyes burning.  Afterward the smell on my hands, my hair, my body, the aftertaste in my mouth.  None of these were good.  I really worked it, and spent time internalizing those physical things so that even now when I think of smoking, that's what comes to mind and poof no desire at all to smoke.  It worked for me very early on in this quit.  I call it "DE-romancing the cigarette".

I also suggest you read sweetplt‌'s blog from today titled "Don't Give Up"  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/people/sweetplt/blog/2019/05/02/don-t-give-up

She had a terrific answer to someone who asked her if she missed smoking.  You might think about what she said and how you feel about those things. The things she doesn't miss.  I'll bet you find things you DON'T like about smoking in there.

I would be interested to see your "what I like about smoking" list.

No abuse or battering here. Stay quit whatever you do! I also enjoyed smoking more than most. I am fat and in addition to that, I was loosing my breath. Only half pack a day. Couldn’t walk 50 feet without being winded. Diagnosis: asthma and COPD. Inhalers galore! Now, coming up on one year, did my fist 5k mini marathon last weekend. My breathing was not challenged, only my legs hurt! I can breathe again! At those moments I want a cig. I still chew the gum. 3 pieces a day, sometimes 2. I’m 58 and need to breath. No more inhalers, no asthma, lungs clear according to low dose scan. Do it for you first and foremost, then for your loved ones! You got this, hang in there and you’ll breathe easy soon enough! Good luck.

I know, I liked it too.  But what purpose did it serve?  I also have to suck it up for health reasons.  I wish you and me all the best with this.  There are so many other things to do that we enjoy without smoking.  Search for those things, and reward yourself as you go along.  I wish you all the best. xo

I hear you...I LIKE SMOKING TOO...but when I make a list of the pros and the cons...I just have to beat it this time; and

I am working as hard as I can at it.  I do tell my friends and family how difficult this is for me...and I get back support and encouragement, for which I am very grateful!!! As I have written in a blog before...my mantra is: "Smoking is not an option."  Oh...and physically..I feel great...and my mood is so much better, but I think all the exercise I have been doing is helping me in that regard.  This is tough going...I pray to be relieved of the cravings (which I most often think are anxious feelings.)
