NML Wednesday Check In - 8/23/2017

NML Wednesday Check In - 8/23/2017

Don’t think of it as QUITTING.  Think of it as GAINING!!!

We are doing this discussion every Wednesday to offer encouragement and camaraderie to those in NML, basically months 2-3-4 of a quit. Regardless of how long you’ve been quit, anyone who likes the conversation and wants to offer support is welcome to participate!

We will offer topic questions below if you find yourself at a loss for what to post.  These are for ideas.  We are happy if you just stop by to say hi and let us know you are still with us in NML.  Feel free to offer up ideas on topic question and I will include them in next week’s post!  Stop by daily or as often as you like!  Don’t forget to post to the Daily Pledge!

*********************************************

Topic Questions:

List five things that always, and immediately, bring a smile to your face.

What are three thoughts that made you smile today?

Are you about a month into your quit? Are you feeling a little down, a little lost? Don’t fret – you’re entering No Man’s Land, the 100 days that start about the time your first month ends.

The first month of a quit is emotional, exhilarating, exhausting, and many other “e” words I’m sure!  You are trying to take one moment at a time and focusing all of your energy on your brand new quit. Around the one-month mark, things start to change, and you spend the next 100 days or so in a place called “No Man’s Land.”

In No Man’s Land, you’ve come a long way, but still have a long way to go. The routine cravings are gone but the surprise cravings can knock you to your knees. Your family and friends think you should be “over it” while you still feel quite fragile sometimes. Your relationships with smoking friends/family may be feeling strained. Your inner junkie is still around, still whispering to you, and the temptation to give in can be every bit as strong as it was in your first few days.

But here’s the good news. In these same 100 days, for most people, your circulation has improved substantially, walking has become easier, and your overall lung function has increased noticeably. Sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath have decreased. Your body's overall energy has increased. The roller coaster is smoothing out, and you are feeling calmer and stronger overall. Good things are happening!

Checking in here will help you get through NML and on your way to the first year where you can celebrate being in the 6% Club!

Note:  Much of this content was previously found in an old blog post by SarahP when I searched for NML.  I want to make sure credit is given since much of the content above is taken from that blog post.  I also understand SarahP was willing to pass the torch to someone else on the weekly NML Check In.  Instead of doing a blog, I am making this a weekly discussion.

Good Morning NML'ers. I hope you have a great mid-end of your week. I'll start of the day by answering the topic questions:

1. Knowing I'm a non smoker, Animals, seeing/talking to my Family, Fond memories & Complimenting someone.

2. I don't have to smoke, I'm not coughing myself dizzy because of smoking & Helping my daughter with her homework last night.

I do hope you enjoy these topic questions. Have fun with it. get your mind on the bright side of life first thing this morning. Or just talk about whatever is on your mind today.

Always remember SINAO & NOPE (smoking is not an option & not one puff ever).

Have a wonderful, beautiful, glorious day today!!!!!

I'm stealing from Christine a bit:

Things that make me smile:

1. Smelling coffee brewing in the morning

2. Babies....anybodys (human and most animals)

3. Mint chocolate chip ice cream

4. Seeing someone smile when I walk into the room

5. Watching the Browns win the Super Bowl. OK, I'm just guessing this would make me smile.  I'll never know for sure

Three thoughts that made me smile today:

1.Remembering today is Wednesday.  I do volunteer work on Wednesday evenings that always makes me smile.

2. Knowing I've gone 100 days without nicotine!

3. Knowing I've gone 100 days without nicotine!  (I know, that's kind of cheating, but it's a special day, I'm allowed)

Good Afternoon Fellow EXer's and NML partners....I'm a little late joining the discussion today, it's been super crazy at work here and my brain seems to still be in a fog (I almost forgot to check in on this weekly update....good thing I seen it on my page)...I am still smoke free at 37 days WOO HOO!!! A few little triggers this week, but nothing that made me want to rush out and buy a pack....A deep breath and cup of green tea seemed to do the trick...What great topic questions this week...

List five things that always, and immediately, bring a smile to your face.

1 - Waking up every morning - happy, healthy and still smoke free

2 - My family (hubby, 2 grown children and 2 beautiful granddaughters, ages 6 and 1)

3 - A hot cup of coffee in the morning while enjoying the fresh air

4 - Friday at 5:00 PM and I'm done working for the week!!!

5 - Watching my Cincinnati Bengals play (and preferably WIN!!)

What are three thoughts that made you smile today?

1 - Thinking about what made me smile today (I think that instantly puts a smile on anyone's face)

2 - It's sunny and 80 degrees....perfect weather here in Ohio!

3 - I woke up in a better mood today - the last couple of days, I have been very overly anxious

Look forward to seeing everyone's responses!

I noticed a lot of you that normally check in, haven't done so yet. We want to hear from you. If you don't like the topic questions please just give us a little update on if you are still smoke free. Let us know how your week went since last Wednesday August 16th.

Sincerely,

Cathy
