Amazing, what a journey. Thank you for the inspiration, and congrats to you and Mrs. Troutnut.
Dennis,
Great job on all fronts....fantastic journey you are travelling....and what's so special, is the fact that your wife is still around to travel it with you....congratulations. Been there, done that...or should I say, doing that...I'm "all in". I'm squarely in the middle of the AA bed, and am holding fast with this quit journey as well.

CONGRATULATIONS and thanks for a great blog! I laughed out loud at the visual of the pack of cigarettes floating down the river. The surprise on your face must have been worth a million dollars! Congratulations to you and the Mrs. Hope she is feeling better.

Thanks, I needed that. Hearing others stories helped me smober up and still does today. Congratulations on 19, Troutnut1.
Sorry I didn't see this post of yours two days ago, Dennis, but it doesn't really matter "when" we see it, just that we DO!
So much wisdom you have after 19 years of being steadfast to your quit. One of my take-aways...:
So I told my brain a little white lie. “It’s just today” I would say. “Tomorrow we can smoke and/or drink if we want to, but never today.” And tomorrow never comes because it’s always today. "
However we trick our brains, if it works- that's all that matters.
Another take away: I was smart enough to know I would never make it if I kept them around. I had failed many, many quits with the “just one” lie.
Wow, three and a half packs a day you smoked? And here you are with a 19 year quit. Talk about an inspiration. I'm gonna celebrate with you and your wife since you say she quit on March 1st, as did I. But I've only got 14 years. Wish I had quit five years earlier. Wish I had quit when I was 21. Wish I had never put one in my mouth. But that's water under the bridge. We celebrate every day quit when we FINALLY figured it out, don't we?!
Kudos
Congratulations to one of my biggest heros @Troutnut1
You must be bursting with pride for having outsmarted the nicodemon for 19 years. Thank you for sharing your journey as it has had a great impact on my quit.
How is the novel coming along? Cant wait to read it.
