why i'm quiting...

i'm already starting to use some of the ways to keep me busy. I am going to start with slowing how many cigarettes I smoke in the day, and keep going down till i can start my patches. I have been wrighting down everything I do when i eat, smoke a cig, workout, walk the dog, clean the house/ i never really knew how much i was smoking till I wrote down when, where, and how many. Its crazy how much you find out about yourself when you write it down on paper. I never would have thought I smoked that much but wow my daughter was right. I started to think about quiting smoking because of my daughter and son, they came to me and said mommy that cigarette smells bad and it's nasty please dont smoke I was like wow out of the mouth of babes... So made a promise to both of them I would quit smoking for them and me.. My whole family use to be smokers but my mom quit, my stepfather, my dad, father in law. So, if they can do it so can I. They all quit in different ways and i'm finding out some are harder then others..

Stick with the team here, what will also help is getting all the reading materials you can, I still go on the internet on STOP SMOKING.COM read materials i find, print them out and keep them on hand in a folder, also reading books on quitting, Allen Carr had a good selection of books on quitting, aslo the American Lung Association has books, you may want to check into them. I'ts goog you are keeping a journal, also keep doing your journal after you quit, Stay here with everyone, and we will help you all the way. Good Luck.

Before I quit, when I started tracking my smokling, I realized what a big fat waste of time smoking really is. I have so many other things I can do instead of sitting there killing myself and wasting time.

You should definitely ready Allan Carr''s book. I put a link to a free PDF on my profile.

Now that you are starting to see some of the routines you have with smoking, you will see all your patterns of where and when you smoke.

I suggest the next step you take is start separating yourself from smoking with a few of those activities. For example, if you smoke after every meal, then wait at least an hour before you smoke from now on. Separation exercises helped me immensely.

You've made a great decision to come here and learn about quitting. Keep reading, keep learning.

The most IMPORTANT thing you can do for your quit now is to educate yourself about the addiction and the mind games it plays on us....READ,READ,READ for a successful quit...the more you read, the EASIER it is...

CHOOSE to quit smoking, not TRY. Educate yourself by reading these links that most of us have used to help us quit and STAY quit! This is about making a DECISION to never put another cigarette in your mouth, mean it, and be committed to follow through on that decision. Also allow NO excuses AND hang in there for as long as it takes, no matter how uncomfortable you become.... This is about re-learning your life WITHOUT cigarettes....start changing your "normal" routine....because a smoker's routine revolves around cigarettes. You will be a nonsmoker so change how you start your morning so it doesn't revolve around cigarette breaks, etc. You CAN do this! ....

You might want to figure out how much money you' re saving everyday, too. One of the biggest plusses for me, though, was getting back my sense of taste and sense of smell. Also, I don' t stink anymore. Congratulations on your decision to abandon this vice. I' m wishing you much success!
