I smoked again today. How do i stop? i cant get past the urge. I dont smoke until about 4 in the afternoon. I cant take it anymore. i dont want to smoke but the withdrawal is so severe. i feel like a failure. i cat believe that stupid piece of paper with poison in it is stronger than i am. i have been preparing for several months and thought that the cravings wouldnt be as hard this time considering i am prepared. WRONG!!!!! i think they are harder. i guess i will try again tomorrow.

bite into a lemon when you get the urge to smoke

JonesCarpeDiem

you should not have anything around to smoke

you can't smoke if you don't have any to smoke.

ask your husband to smoke outside.

I'm quitting on Monday and terrified of this happening again:/ I totally understand. In my past attempts, no matter how prepared I was, no mattter how strong or weak the craving was, if I let myself think smoking was an option, that quit was done. I'm really focusing on not letting myself believe smoking is ever an option, regardless how bad it gets. I also plan on getting lots of lemons like Dale suggest. Lol I'm sorry you are going through this and know you, we, will beat this demon!

If you know that you have a problem with cravings at a particular time of day, then it might help for you to log onto this site at that time.  You have to make the decision to blog BEFORE you light up, so we can talk you through it.

At some point you have to say "no" to the craves if you're ever going to get your quit to move beyond Day 1.  Instead of moving in circles, get that quit moving forward.  Once you put them down, DO NOT pick them up.  You are stronger than any craving -- and smarter.  Believe that.

@upset again, any of us could be in your situation, and I personally would want you to tell me, "Just jump back up on the bandwagon post-haste!" 🙂

@Sheryl, awesome comment, thanks!

What are you doing to combat the 4 pm craving?  Anything?  Have you thought about what to do when they hit?  Suoggestion:   When you feel it coming on - get out of the wherer you are, change your scenery, do something different, alter your focus, go for a walk, put on some music and dance, weed wack, stand on your head...whatever.

Cravings are hard.  They simply are.  We all experienced those first miserable few days.  You need a little discipline.  We are lazy.  And we hurt so much emotionally most of the time, we don't want to hurt any more.  Tough.  Get over it.  You CAN get past the urge.  Delay it, if nothing else.  Delay it for an hour.  So then it will be 5 pm.  Delay it an hour a day and you'll get through your first smoke free day.

Personalliy I found it a whole lot easier to just go cold turrkey.  I'm the kind that will jump into the water rather than inch in bit by bit.  Give me the full shock at once and get it over with.  But if you need the bit-by-bit torture - then take it incrementally.

Just don't quit trying.  But there does come a point when you have to eventually get wet.
