sooooo.... i smoked today... I know i shouldn't have and i have no excuses, but i will get back on track. i'm not going to let this slip stop me from being smoke free.
LeeLee, where are you getting the cigarettes? Are you buying a pack or do you have some leftovers? You made a decision to smoke, that is not a slip, it was a choice. And please don't say I don't know how hard it is. I smoked for 54 years and I quit, you can also but you are not commiting to quit. I am not trying to be harsh or hurtful but you need to realize what you are doing, PLEASE. You are hurting yourself more than anything. I care about you and your quit.
I agree with Froguelady. when a person "slips" they don't think "hey, i wanna slip on that ice and fall on my butt" and then step forward and do just that. You chose to smoke today, which means you chose to make this much harder on yourself than it has to be. GET ANY AND ALL CIGARETTES OUR OF YOUR HOUSE. If I were you, I would even put your money in a bank, to a family member.... somewhere you can not get at it to buy another pack. BUT DON'T GIVE UP!!!!
Tomorrow will be Day 1 for you. Have you read Allen Carr's book?
What HAVEN'T you done? I mean, we should learn from our mistakes. You've been on here blogging away, which is great. Have you made yourself a little kit with straws to chew on, mints or gum? Got a lemon in your fridge? Have a list of things to do when a crave hits to distract yourself instead of dwelling on it and making it stronger?
Again, have you read Allen Carr's book, and what Joel has to say on whyquit.com??? When you were craving because of this stress what did you do? Did you kick the thoughts out? Read up on how cigarettes cause stress by deepening addiction? Distract yourself by biting a lemon, brushing your teeth, splashing you face with cold water, or sticking you head in the freezer? Distract yourself by reading one of the Elders' blogs? you can go on their page to see their blogs and pick on that you need to read.
Or did you keep looking at your hair cut and moan and groan and think, "damn i need a cigarette?" Whatever you did, did not work. I know how that feels. I messed up a 24 day quit, and had to start all over.
So now, figure out what you did and make sure to be more prepared. I keep mentioning Allen Carr's book because you seem to be craving and fighting against wanting a smoke. You need to realize how much you really DON'T want one and the only way to do that is by reading. education. Hang in there and don't give up!!! YOu can do this.
Okay, pick yourself up and dust yourself off. YOU BEGIN AGAIN.
Jordan and Frogue just said everything that you needed to hear.
And the MOST important thing that they said was about your proximity to cigarettes.
When you quit, IF you really mean it, you will not have any cigarettes in your possession. ANYWHERE. And you will not be (in the early days, at least) hanging around anyone that you can ask for a cigarette.
In these early days, if you find you really want to give up your Quit, then, in order to actually do so, you will have to go get in your car and drive to a store and buy a pack and buy a lighter and open the pack and pull out the cigarette and put it in your mouth and...you get the idea, right? That's not an "oops" kinda moment, is it?
I know for CERTAIN that, in the early days of my Quit, that there were times I was craving so badly that if I could have gotten ahold of a cigarette, I probably would have smoked it. But I made sure that I had no access to cigarettes.
If you don't HAVE a cigarette, you can't smoke one. We DO love and support you, leelee. But you have to accept that there is no such thing as a "slip". xxxooo
I've been on this site all day...had it up at work and checked in constantly...I never saw a call for help before you smoked or I would've answered...always ask for help before you smoke...give the comminity time to talk you through it...I never would have made it through day 3 without blogging! Welcome back! xo
