"Quit Insurance"

Inspired by the article maggie shared with me about quit insurance, I decided to come up with some of my own, as follows:

A letter to yourself:

So you are sitting here, right now, thinking, I cant do it, I cant do it, I cant do it. You are insisting that patches cost too much and you don’t want to go down that road anymore. You are debating weather or not you need the patches. What you do not know is the strength and the power that resides inside of you. That you decided to quit- resolved to do so, once and for all AND YOU DID IT. Just because you started again doesn*t mean you need to keep smoking. Just because it hurts doesn*t mean you don*t want it- even when your body is screaming, yelling, and telling you otherwise. Even when your body is quietly whispering “its just one, i*ll quit tomorrow, or whatever the excuse is.” You have no idea the power that you have. You are strong and you do not want to die from smoking cigarettes. You want to live a long and healthy life, hence, reasons to quit

1 It smells horrible. Your sense of smell will return in mere days, and the smell of a cig will make you sick. You will smell better and know it. All of your LUSH products will be ever more enchanting.

2 NO MORE GUILT. No more hiding from jim, wishing you could tell the truth, hoping that when you do he won*t give you that look that makes you wish you were dead. No more wondering if he is an asshole or if you are just being infuriatingly obtuse, because you have quit and started and quit and started… AGAIN. So don*t do it so you don*t have to feel that AGAIN.

3 You will feel SO STRONG. In no time, you will remember the feeling of being on top of the world, in control, in charge. No cig can own you.

4 Your chances of conceiving will go up dramatically. You are killing eggs everytime you smoke a cig. EVERY TIME.

5 Your children will be less likely to smoke, have asthma, etc.

6 Beau won*t cough and will live longer.

7 you will stop wheezing, your heart won*t pound when you lay in bed at night, and you will be able to breathe better, ALMOST INSTANTLY.

8 Remember how you felt yesterday when you woke up from that nap? Congested, coughing, feeling gross? Why didn*t you feel that way until you smoked your old brand, which you finally broke down and bought? BEACAUSE YOUR BODY REMEMBERS THE DAMAGE THEY DID, AND IT IS REJECTING IT.

9 No more guilt about what smoking is doing to you- lung cancer, etc. No more thinking about Pam, wondering if she ever quit, and wondering why you haven*t been able to pick up the phone and call her to see how she is doing (you*re afraid to know, and even more afraid that it will make you want to quit.)

10 You still want to run and bike and lose weight. These things become infinitely more easy every day that passes without cigarettes.

11 you will taste things better again. You will be able to sit in a restaurant, watch a movie, and read a book, or work efficiently, without the distraction of even a craving. They do go away, almost instantly.

12. Just for today, don*t smoke.

13 Just for today, don*t smoke. Because tomorrow, you won*t even want to compared to today.

By the end of this post, you already want to smoke. That’s ok, its normal. Ride the craving, don*t give in. Have some water, or even a snack (healthy preferred.)
