"IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK, I'D HAVE NO LUCK AT ALL" is what the song said...

AS MY LATE HUSBAND PETE USED TO SAY:

"IF IT AIN'T ONE THING, IT'S ANOTHER."

Well, it's been a week of challenges for me. First off, a routine cardiology appointment showed I was in congestive heart failure -- requiring a daily fluid pill and an upcoming referral to a cardiac surgeon -- , then a periodontal referral unearthed the need for a bone graft on my lower jaw, and after that I developed a sinus infection, with sore throat and ear ache -- requiring antibiotic. As the week was drawing to a  close, my medical issues were definitely improving, and I had my dental procedure scheduled for mid- April, and a volunteer driver request was in the works. Things were definitely beginning to look up.

AND THEN, my bi-annual UPS delivery of clay-based kitty litter appeared on my doorstep. All five large containers, split between two packing boxes and dropped right beside my front porch door, were screaming for my attention.

My initial attempts to slide the boxes toward the open doorway threshold did nothing other than to produce a sharp pain to the side of my lower back. A pain that did not allow me to stand up straight. So I shuffled back inside, positioned my heating pad on the couch and slowly lay against its welcoming heat.

A good 4 hours later, I went to step One of Plan B and opened the two packing boxes. Then, back to the heating pad. Throughout the rest of the afternoon and early evening, I alternated between getting the litter containers out of those boxes and taking breaks on the couch. Just before the final light of day, I had managed to roll each of the boxes inside my front hall. When my son came for my trash later in the week,  I would have him move them to my storage room at the rear of my apartment.

Today, it is two days later and I am finally able to almost stand straight up. The pain has lessened considerably and I'm just using the heating pad for short periods throughout the day. I am definitely rounding the corner on this series of unfortunate events. And I've experienced a  healthy attitude adjustment as I have pondered this thought:

I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT FOR WHATEVER REASON IT WAS IN MY BEST INTEREST TO BE HARBORED AT HOME OVER THESE PAST DAYS

Prior to my first quitting on 8/25/2019, I was a heavy smoker for over 60 years. That time, I quit due to health concerns regarding clogged arteries to my brain. Tar deposits from cigarettes were making the situation worse. I had become a prime candidate for a stroke and required surgery to clean out my left carotid artery. I have relapsed 4X since that quit, the last one being on 05.15.2022. ( At one point in all of this madness, I had been quit for 1.5 years). Then on 9/7/2021 I began my recent eight month quit before my current relapse. I am in the process of planning a return to the non-smoking life. After more than 2 weeks of smoking, wheezing and coughing and being short of breath, I have set my new quit date of June 1, 2022 as the beginning of my forever quit. I am done with this madness!! God is good.
