"Hell Week" is almost over... do the cravings get smaller?

One week ago today, I ended up in the E.R. suspecting I was having a heart attack.........It wasn't , thank God, and the good news is I haven't found it necessary to light up since then. I was preparing to quit on the 27th and I guess it wasn't supposed to go that way. I am so amazed, surprised, shocked , that I have not smoked for almost (2p.m. edt) 7 whole days! This program really works, if I work it, and I really want it!
So I would love to hear feedback about "Hell Week", now that it's over! Do the cravings get smaller?

Congratulations on ONE WEEK! That is totally awesome!! Your attitude is awesome as well. Yes, it does get easier, but cravings still do come and go. I tell myself that "Smoking is not an option." Each craving is a reminder that I am restoring my health! Think about how you felt on day 1 compared to today. You should see a huge difference, eh? Keeping that positive attitude will reinforce your commitment! Keep on keeping on Bella -- this is a major milestone for you!! Congratulations!!!!

For me, the cravings got "smaller" and less frequent each week that went by- BUT- watch out and don't get confident for several months. Sometimes a "big one" hits just out of the freakin' blue! I still get them and I am now over two months smober. They are WAY EASIER to deal with- and sometimes I forget that I smoked at all (that is nice!) but they still come up at times! I still have to think NOPE.

congrats!!!! I can't speak for others hun but for me they got smaller. YOu are right you have to work at it and want it for it to work. My hubby and I did and we quit. Check out the groups if you haven't already the Pledge one and the one that celebrates your milestones.

Congrats on Hell Week! Once hell week was over for me I almost started losing count of the days. I kept busy and cravings slowy started to go away. I have past 1 month (just bearly) and I still have cravings but it's a quick thought in my head and it's over.... it's nothing like hell week. You may hear people tell you that yes they still have cravings but keep in mind, they are SOOOO different! They aren't as hard to fight off and they are mostly just a 3 second thought in your head! It only gets better after hell week! Keep it up you're doing great!!!

Hi Bella! Yes, the first week of the quit was the most intense as far as cravings went. I used exercise, bubble gum and 'smoked' straws to get through it. I think it was at about 3 weeks that I started romanticizing cigarettes! For me, it was like ending a bad relationship that I really didn't want to be over with, but I couldn't continue. I had thoughts that my life was boring now that I quit smoking-SOOOO untrue!

Sometimes I still miss it. The cravings are very brief though and much more managable than they were in the first week. Looking at my quit meter really helps a lot. Everynow and again I get those thoughts that quitting wasn't really so hard, why not just smoke another carton or so and then quit again? Just the fact that I don't even consider smoking just one pack or even just one cigarette anymore tells me I have a huge problem that doesn't need to be unleashed again!

Way to go! Push up girl!

Bella,
Keep up the good work. It does get easier. Check out the Pledge to quit group. It is real good. It helps me a lot, you look forward to pledging not to smoke everyday. There are a lot of positive people that belong they help you along.

WOW, you were right our stories are so similar. I couldn't agree with you more...for some reason our planned quit dates weren't supposed to go that way. Wishing only success to you!
