Share your quitting journey
Hi my peeps! I'm really glad to be here. I quit smoking for about the 5th time in my life on 11/28/10 - a date which will live in infamy. I know, I know....... that's really not that long ago. But it will be! I actually quit before joining EX. I decided to quit because I was hospitalized for an acute asthma attack that wouldn't go away. As I laid in the bed unable to breathe, I just got pissed off and told myself "This is just dumb".
My personal story is that I am the young widow of a great husband and father who died in August 07. We both smoked. He died from sudden cardiac arrest, no signs, no nothing. The whole family was home. He collapsed, I'm a nurse, I had to work on him while my kids watched. It was a true nightmare on earth. I couldn't stop then because the stress of becoming newly widowed at the age of 36 with two kids was just two much at the time.
I have been quit for,.....oh......11 days now? I feel better, I still have a bad cough (hoping that goes away soon). My greatest fear through this is that I'm gonna get fat. Because the oral fixation is the worst for me. I have been eating sunflower seeds like they're going out of style. I'm gonna turn into a bird. LOL
I used Wellbutrin for about the first 7 days and then had to quit taking it because of a bad interaction with another med but it did help me get through the worst craving days and made cigarette smoke smell REALLY bad. It also affected taste so I didn't overeat.
Anyway, online grief support groups really helped me when my husband died. I'm a firm believer in groups of people who can support each other. Also, I'm starting a group on Facebook for anyone who wants to join which will include a chat room that we can join and talk to each other in real time. I think this will help us support each other even more, especially when those mean cravings come around.
Thanks for reading my profile. 🙂
