Really need to stop for my health....I"m starting to feel the effects....I'm a walker and now I find myself wheezing and coughing....it isn't fun anymore....my walks with nature are far to important to give up over something as idiotic as smoking ....I;m quitting for my family as well....they would-will be thrilled

Welcome to the site and congrats on deciding to quit! You are in the right place! Be sure to learn as much as you can about this addiction - check out Carr's "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" -http://media.wix.com/ugd/74fa87_2010cc5496521431188f905b7234a829.pdf

That book has helped so many of us! Plus, I really like the free course at www.quitsmokingonline.com - and hang out here for support!

Again - welcome!

Welcome to our community!

The most important thing you can do right now is to educate yourself on what nicotine does to your body and mind. To that end, I highly recommend Allen Carr's “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.”  which Strudel linked for you above. This is an easy and entertaining read.

As well, read the sections on this site, and read the blogs, responses and pages of folks you think might be helpful. You might visit whyquit.com and quitsmokingonline.com for the good information contained there. You should also do the tracking and separation exercises suggested on this site

After you have completed the recommended reading, it will be time to make an informed choice of the quit aid, if any, you will use. If you go that route, I personally recommend the aids that don't let the addict control the dose such as the available prescription drugs or the patch. But – any method that you think will work well for you will be best for you.

Stay close to us here and ask questions when you have them and for support when you need it. We will be with you every step of the way!

We've all been where you are, and feeling that anxiety about quitting.  But if you do some good reading now and plan your quit, and use the tools available, and come back to this site often to read the blogs and comment and write blogs yourself, you will find that you will be into your quit and while it isn't always easy, it's so DOABLE.

I'm 35 days into my quit and feeling great.  You can do it!!
