Nothing to do with smoking.

Does anyone here ride motorcycle?  Just wondering.  If you do, do you wear a helmet?  I have been a volunteer first responder for 20 years.  Had another call this afternoon for a man on a motorcycle without a helmet.  He did not have a head injury, some other broken bones, but just wondering how can someone ride like that without a helmet?

But, after writing this, I guess it is kind of like smoking in a way, just living dangerously.  Like smoking, knowing it can kill you but still do it...except for us quitters here.

Just kind of rambling I guess!

they just throw one leg over it and ride.

just like putting one between their lips and firing it up.

wonder what  percentage of motorcycle riders smoke?

anyone know?

I always ride my harley with a helmet, wont leave the house without it on. On the other hand my brother rarely wore his helmet on his bike, got in a head on crash with a car about 45 mph, was wearing flip flops, a tshirt, shorts, and no helmet, and his worst resulting injury was scratches on his nuckles. I quess some of us are just lucky:)

I don't ride these days, but I've owned a couple of Harleys and I took safety very, very seriously. I took both the beginner and advanced Motorcycle Safety Foundation rider courses (the best road safety training in the country, bar none). Shoulda seen me doing the various cone exercises on a Harley Road King.....

I never left the driveway without a full-face helmet, jeans, boots, and a leather jacket.

The biggest thing I learned riding bikes is that you have to be non-stop vigilant in scanning and identifying what other idiots might do to you. As one of my instructors put it, "when they hit you on your bike, it isn't going to do a bit of good to say that it was their fault because you are the one who's going to be busted up". You learn to be very defensive -- like stopping well back from the car in front so if you see some idiot barreling down on you from behind smoking the brakes, you have room to nail it and drive off onto the shoulder.

We have a Harley..   Road King hwc..   ( just came in from a ride a couple of hours ago) and live in Michigan where it's a law that you MUST have a helmet on...  and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I grew up around Harleys. My parents were hard core bikers. We lived in mich 2 but would go to Indiana just so we could take our helmets off. My mom always said they made us wear them so it would be one less thing to scrap off the road. My mom was a member of ABATE as well. I would say smoking bikers is 50/50 from what I've seen.

no i dont wear a helmet.. it should be riders choice... i've heard all the stories.. and there are arguments on both sides.. not here to argue the point.. i've been riding over 50 years and yes i've been down into the side of a car that turned left in front of me..

@truckerjoeh1959 Don't know if these bikers area still around.  Hopefully they're still not smoking.   Hope this will entice more bikers to respond.  I'm not one.  😊
