jay-z and the peanuts

Unlikely combination?  I think not.  I think they will be some of my biggest supporters in this fight to quit!

What I've noticed about separating the act of smoking from the triggers is that it really dulls the need.  It's like, I take a moment to think about what I'm doing.  I never realized how unconsciously I would go to the kitchen counter, grab a smoke, head-out the back door to the patio, and light-up.

The last couple days I have been either pumping up the volume on the Jay-Z greatest hits album (a true album, 12" vinyl x3), or reading some strips out of a Peanuts volume over a glass of V8.  Jay-Z's lyrics, if you're familiar, are very often about overcoming, about triumph, about struggles and conquers.  His struggle with an external environment growing up, and the expression of that struggle, goes well against the internal struggle of smoking.  As for the Peanuts...it's just funny, innocent.  Reminds me of all the beautiful things in the world.  I don't read many things like it on a regular basis, so it's almost like a cleansing of all the complicated and sometimes dark things I expose myself to and analyze.  And it's such a foil to smoking.

Anyway, I'm quite tuned-in to the preparing for my quit, so I just must sustain the will and energy.  I've taken a positive first step with some of the routines I'm building that will eventually replace the act of having the cigarette altogether.
