Hello folks - so I'm a newbie.  4/11 is my quit day.  Just started the chantix today - ok so far.  Just my heart is beating like crazy!  Anyways - I've smoked for about 15 years now and I've unsuccessfully quit about 5 times.  And now I am ready.  I'm mentally prepared.  I'm gonna do this. (I might be cheating a little bit with the chantix but I've tried everything else!)

Anyways - I just wanted to say that I was reading through the blogs and I'm finding them very inspirational. Kind've like - if they can do it, then I can do it.

So - as long as the chanitx doesn't make me super crazy...I'll be back to check in with my progress.

Wish me luck!

M

My brother in law quit 4 years ago with chantix and made it through his quit! He was a 20+ year 2 pack a day smoker same with his wife!! You can get through it, when you feel moments of weakness coming sign on and blog you will be amazed at the amount of support you get here on this site! I give this site alot of credit because the people here saved my quit several times in the begining.

There is no cheating when it comes to quitting so long as it works. But as jonescarp said, don't stray to far. The NRT's help with the cravings but you still have to win the war with your mind. This is why we're here.

Best wishes!

Hey Mishee!  I quit using Chantix....50 days today!!  By the 3rd day on the Chantix, cigarettes were like smoking air...nothing to them!!  By the 7th day, they tasted like crap....I quit and never looked back.  I smoked for over 30 years, over a pack a day.  However, it wasn't just the Chantix that did it...and has jonescarp said, there is no luck to this, you have to WANT this and you have to DECIDE to do this.  I would recommend reading Allen Carr's book, "Easy Way to Stop Smoking", you can download it at this link....it will give you the mind set you need to make this work!

We ARE here to help you....all you need to do is post a blog and someone will help you!!  It would be helpful if you filled out more information on your home page.  Stay close to this site and let us know how the days leading up to the 11th are going!   Cindy

Hi Everyone - I am loving this site!  Everyone is so positive and encouraging!!  I find myself checking back in repeatedly to see what else people are saying!  I love this!

I have to admit, I'm a bit nervous of 4/11 (my quit day), but I've been kinda working at for the last few weeks.  I haven't been smoking at my normal times (i.e. wake up, 10:30, 3 pm, in the car, etc).  I'm trying to get myself mentally prepared for this.  I am so freaking determined this time to do it.

Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement.  Not that I want anyone else to ever have to go through the "quitting"...but its nice to chat with people who REALLY understand how hard it is to quit.  It sucks.

Now, if my heart would just stop racing....damn Chantix.

Welcome Mishee, Your are at the right place for sure. The people here are so encouraging. I just quit, March 29th around 8:30. My husband and I are quitting together, he too is quiting on chantix, and he seems to be doing pretty good. I am kinda doing cold turkey; however, the doctor did give me something to help with the nerves. The link above you by Determined in Dakotas (Allen Carr) is worth your time. I read everything i could get my hands on, and like you, I too found myself checking in reapeatedly to read all the blogs, and I am still doing it. This site will really help with your quit - if your really ready, and you take this site serious you'll quit!

Best of luck to you, and hope to see you around 😃

Welcome to the site! Jonescarp is right - no luck involved. Luck implies that the results are out of your control - like winning the lottery. That's not the case - you have control and power over this addiction! Check out the book "determined in Dakotas" mentioned. Plus - http://quitsmokingonline.com has a great on line course which helped many of us here! Stick around - the support here is great!

Hey, Mishee, and welcome. I just have to say right off the bat that I'm concerned about your heart beating too rapidly. This is not a good sign and you need to monitor your pulse rate so you can tell your doctor and ask if this is a "normal" side-affect from Chantix.

Also, many of us here read, and read and READ some more when it came to our quits. It helps. Do your homework. Take notes. Got to www.whyquit.com and www.quitsmokingonline.com and read the Alan Carr book. Did you download it yet? You're in charge of your quit not an ecig or Chantix or anything. I used Wellbrutrin for a couple of weeks. Then quit.

It's really doable and please, don't listen when people say it's the hardest thing to do. It isn't. BY FAR there are worse things.

Congratulations on your decision to quit! You're well on your way already. Take it from someone who is verging on thier one year non-smoking anniversary, it is the best decision I ever made. It has bought me bigger and better things both physically (A baby due in around a month) and emotionally. Enjoy your quite and embrace what there is to come from a smoke-free life.

All the very best of luck in your journey, we're here for you if you need us!
