i quit smoking over 1 year now

I QUIT SMOKING....BUT GAINED 30 PDS..TRIED TO LOSE IT AND CANNOT...UP TIL MY 50S ONLY WEIGHED 120 NOW I AM 200 POUNDS... I WILL NOT TURN TO SMOKING AGAIN THOUGH!!! HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO LOSE THE WEIGHT ... BUT AM STILL STUCK WITH THE WEIGHT....I WANT TO LOSE AT LEAST 50 PDS.. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

when do you schedule your meals and are they large meals?

when we diet and starve ourselves, are bodies are actually fooled into fat storage mode.

If you eat very small meals 6-8 times a day as in 2 bites of protein, and part of some fruit, you will keep your body in fat burning mode. The fruit will bring your blood sugar up and the protein will hold it longer.

Exercise obviously would be beneficial if you are able.

Dale has given you excellent advice.  Exercise, if you are able, is one of the BEST ways to lose weight.  You need to be patient,too.  It took awhile to put it on, it will take awhile to take it off.

Oh my goodness I am still working my way back to 120. It is always the same thing friend...diet & exercise. Sometimes it is beneficial to consult a Nutritionist if you are doing all the right things and still not losing. Or have a complete blood panel at your Primary doctor and see how hormone & Thyroid levels are...

CONGRATS on your continued success being nicotine free! I always say I would rather have a few extra pounds and be breathing than a be a thinner smoking person!!! xo

Remember how it was to quit smoking?  all the NOPE and I don't do that anymore.  There are a ton of miracle diets out there, and too good to be true.  buy all their products, skinny and poor.   take special pills and find out in 4 years that they cause heart attacks or something.  So, guess what, good old fashioned portion control and exercise.  I am 110 days in and not even going there.  the good thing is that I was already chubby and already needed to lose weight.  

Go easy on yourself, maybe make one small change per week in both diet and exercise.  add one more little thing each week.  slow and steady, making simple and do-able changes over a period of time and you will have made changes that willl stay with you a lifetime.  

I hope this advice that is in my head and not yet activated is valid!  seems so not right for me to offer this to you from my glass house, in my plus size jeans!!!

I am feeling for you. I never had a weight until my 50's and started taking 3 psychiatric meds. A couple of yrs. ago I tried the same ole same ole low cal. diet. Through starving myself the lowest I could get was 155# and I knew that wasn't going to work so I decided just to try small portions. I didn't understand what was going on as I don't eat sugary foods or soda's & juices. Well now I'm doing a low carb diet. I don't restrict them as much as I should but I can eat a "hockey puck" size of mashed potatoe's etc... I've lost about 9# since the middle of June. I have to pay attention to increasing protein as I'm not much of a meat lover but their are lot's of ways to get protein.

I myself am also living in my glass house and have packed on some ppounds as well. This is all good advice above. I have tried to take the extra off to no avail and have decided that I would rather have a fat belly than stink. LOL I know I have been no help at all! Sorry! Congratulations on your smoke free year!! That is awesome!!!!!!!!!

Eating several small meals keeps your blood sugar from dropping and helps to keep you from wanting to eat the refrigerator...drinking lots of water is very helpful.  I am glad that you are not considering smoking to take the weight off, you can do this but it is a journey, just like the quit.  One day at a time, one pound at a time.  Believe me, I get the frustration.  If you can possibly exercise, I would strongly recommend that, burn more calories than you take in. Congratulations on your year quit!
