fine then, I don't want it

The subject has nothing to do with me not wanting to quit, because i do.

the problem is, insurance. They covered the first step of the patch, and i had to buy the 14mg patches for 2 weeks because the prescription didn't get sent. this time, it did, but insurance is now refusing to cover it.

My thought is, I will not pay almost $80 for patches because my doc prescribed it for a month, and she will probably do it again too for 7mg.

The problem is, that's a huge chunk of change, and I want quitting to save me cash, which it has been doing. but i don't want to have the saved cash be spent on quit aids when this book is wonderful and it makes so much sense.

So fine. my insurance won't cover the patch? then I don't want it.

A 20 pack of gum is as much as i would've been spending on a can of pouches, so no money really saved there.

I'm just not sure how to go about this other than to say I'm gonna give up on the quit aids but not give up on my quit...if that makes sense.

I am on low income anyhow and I'd rather be truly saving money than having to spend it on quit aids. I spent less on the audible book than I would on a month worth of patches, and it has helped me really change my mindset.

I used 11, 21mg patches and then forgt to put them on two days in a row the second week so, I put one in my wallet with a promise to put it on rather than smoke.

Don't get too freaked out abput nicotine quit aids.

They only keep you one step from smoking.

Quitting successfuly is 90% mental addiction.

Ritual, Emotional, & Connections to Memories.

You can call your states 800 hotline and get the patches for free?

@MusicalHobbit   Don't forget the money spent on nicotine could go towards aids.  But free NRT is available in most states. Contact 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

There's nothing wrong with using an aid, especially if it will lead to a successful quit.  Some quitters are against them, but the end result is the same-we're ex-smoker.

Just don't get frustrated with the process.  Keep up the good work.  You're doing great.

@MusicalHobbit I used the Walmart brand (equate) NRT gum in cinnamon for 2 to 3 weeks. I wasn't that expensive. In fact it was way cheaper. They also have equate brand patches. I was reading Allen Carr's book and decided to try going without the NRT gum. I bought regular "Big Red" cinnamon chewing gum at Dollar Tree ( 4 packs for $1.) Sometimes I chew 2 sticks at once. I chewed a lot of gum and always have it in my purse. This has worked for me.

Sorry about your insurance. Maybe you can look at it as a positive and try to go without NRT. Just don't let it be a reason to lose your quit. If you get in a jam get to the Walmart NRT to tide you over. Quitting without NRT wasn't that bad for me. Try 1-800-QUIT NOW for NRT as had been suggested. Remember and always NOPE!

@Snowdoggie thanks! I think I will try without nrt and continue reading the book, which I an very much enjoying. i still have a huge bag of peppermints. i could just continue the book. even re-read it if I need to, and see what happens. because i refuse to give up! I also want to see if the prozac will help me with my quit, because it will be treating my depressive symptoms might treat my urges for nicotine because if I'm feeling better, as Alan says, nicotine does nothing for you! 😀

You can certainly give Smart Turkey a try - but call your State's quit line - 1-800QuitNow and have new patches on the way.  Keep a few in reserve now and promise yourself you will put one on and wait for it to load into your system if the going gets tough.

You can always blog "HELP" here, too - sometimes that's all it takes to reset your mind.

Whatever you decide to do - just don't smoke NO MATTER WHAT!

As @JonesCarpeDiem  said---don't get hung up on the aides.......while they can be helpful, they aren't an absolute. Many of us quit with them and many of us quit without them. I was like you...I did NOT want to spend money on quitting...one of the "perks" of quitting for me was the SAVING of money I was going to see by quitting. PLUS....I have an irrational fear of the patches, gum, lozenges etc. I know that's crazy because I inhaled poisons every day by smoking without a thought......but hey....who said we are rational beings?? : ) It really is not bad to just quit with no aides.......however I do want to say if you really feel you want to go that way...do follow @YoungAtHeart advice and find call your State's quit line. You can usually get free patches etc from there.

The important thing is not HOW you quit........but THAT you quit!!!

Stay Strong.
