I'm having one of those days where I don't know if I can do this forever. I know I don't want to smoke right now. I am also trying to distract myself but, the thoughts keep coming. It's like I miss my old life! I am started to miss the old way I used to socialize...has anyone else felt this way? How do you get through it?

We All Felt That Way

We Built Our Entire Lives Around Smoking.

How Could It Be Any Different.

This Isn't A Matter Of How Long You Can Do It.

It's A Matter Of Honoring Your Decision To Quit.

Quitting Smoking Is Just A Decision, Nothing More.

Stay Strong, Quit Long!!!

You get through it by:

a) Reaffirming in your own mind that quitting smoking is very simple in concept: just don't take another puff. As long as you take care of that part, the other stuff works itself out over time.

b) It's very beneficial to not allow your mind to start wallowiing in romanticized junkie thought memories of smoking: "my old social life" and stuff like that. The reality is that smoking wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Nip in in the bud. Force your mind to fixate on the things you hated about smoking, like...how was the social life standing outside in the rain trying to get a nicotine fix? Also, focus on the benefits of life as an ex-smoker. For me, a few deep cool breaths deep into my lungs tends to get me quickly focused on what I love about being an ex-smoker.

I get through it by taking walks, reading on this site, writing comments to help others on this site, going to whyquit.com to learn about nicotine addiction and watch videos of horrific smoking-related diseases.

WAY TO GO for being proactive and reaching out here instead of reaching for a cigarette!!!
