Coffee never bothered me....but drinking does....Not so much when I have a drink or two at home, but when I'm out at a bar I have a hard time because everyone around me is smoking. I stayed away from bars until about a month and a half into my quit, and I haven't had any smokes....but it is hard and I have to be on guard.

Put shrimp up your nose and then you won't smell the smoke and you could drink tuna water and not know the difference.

Alcoholic tuna water?

On day 2 of me quiting I wanted to test myself so I went up to the local bar (there are 4 for a town of 700 I never got that) to play some Texas holdem poker and maybe have a few beers. Granted there is no smoking in bar where I live it sucked so frikin bad! I had 3 beers then switched to water and toothpicks. I think I will wait alittle longer to try that again.

P.S I took 3rd place in the tournamant out of 125 people! The stress from that alone had me pulling out my hair!

Two beers has been my limit so far. After that I start craving pretty bad. That's just me though. Everybody is different.
I have not tried the bars yet. This weekend should be quite the test as I go to Dallas to be the Matron of Honor in my friends wedding. There will be lots of beer and champagne after the wedding.

Everyone is different, but drinking alcohol has ruined my quits in the past. I started smoking before I ever touched an alcoholic beverage, and they go hand in hand for me. As a pack a day smoker, I could easily smoke 2 packs if I was drinking. So I quit drinking too. I still have my coffee, though.... and I'm NOT giving that up!!! 🙂

BTW - Tuna water??!!! Sounds utterly disgusting!!! LOL!!!

I'm w/Laura, all my relapses have been because of alcohol. Wouldn't you think I would learn by now, just don't want to give up those fun weekends. I never crave a cigarette during the week, but when I go out, after 2 glasses of wine and friends leaving the table to smoke always gets to me. I'm going out tonight with a group of about 16 and out of those at least 5 smoke (all women). That will be a test, but I also have a couple of friends who are very supportive and hopefully keep me from smoking. But, I know I can't depend on anyone else to keep me from smoking, I have to keep me from smoking.

i quit smoking on a monday...jan 5th and i drank (got drunk) on sat the 10th. I did not smoke and to be quite honest i didnt have the urge to smoke....i did however chew the hell outta the nic gum lmao. I was getting my nic fix and didnt smoke. lol i was also drinking by myself (it was friends bday and we were on computer together...she lives in IA i live in KY) so i didnt have someone smoking beside me or around me ...that probably makes a difference.

Priceless.

Anyway, I love good beer. (Budpisser need not apply)

Personally, I have found that beer doesn't do anything to make me want to smoke at all.

However, sitting on a bar-stool makes me want to smoke so bad I have to leave the bar.

You're going to have to think very hard about what is going on around you, and in your head if you want to have a few beers. Maybe you're like me, and beer is fine but certain beer related situation must be avoided. Maybe you're more like Libby, and need to stay off the suace completely until your quit is more solid.

Either way, just be careful and be aware until you know what will set you off.

I love beer, I actually had to drink some each night the first few nights of my quit to help with the nerves. Then after that it started to work against me, and I couldn't drink a beer without wanting a smoke. I am currently at 43 days and the crazy thing is I have had the same beers in my refrig for weeks now. Of course I did have the flu for about a week. I just don't seem to want the beer now that i am not smoking. I will have to see what happens next time I go out to a restaurant and have dinner and a couple beers. I am betting it will make me crave, but I will not cave. NOPE not one puff ever. For a while it is just best to avoid it if it cause you to crave. Protect your quit!!!!

As an ex beer drinker I can attest to the fact that being under the influence of any mind altering substance, beer included, will increase the likelyhood of a smoking relapse! Try a glass of cool clean water in tastes great and will help cleanse/detox your body.
