You vs. You ~ this concept helped me quit

I had my last cigarette on April 20, 2011. 11 weeks ago. I tried and failed at quitting many, many times. I read that book "Easy Way" and it got me to 3 weeks without smoking, but again I failed. I know it has helped many people quit (including the friend who loaned it to me) and I did find it inspiring and empowering when I read it. Ultimately I lost connection and faith with the "easy way" when he told me I wouldn't miss smoking or have cravings. That's great if that's true for him or others, but it wasn't true for me.

My final QUIT came after listening to an episode of one of my favorite public radio shows, Radiolab. It's about how the part of your brain that wants short-term rewards battles with the part of you that wants long-term rewards. I made my husband listen to it too and we each made our own "Ulysses contracts." The pact was our crutch for the first few weeks. You can listen to the show on their website and you don't have to download it. http://www.radiolab.org/2011/mar/08/
