I agree-I hate SPAM as well-it not just looks like it it is SPAM...It would be nice if they would (the adminstrators of this website) entitle a couple of "Trustees/Users" of this Board (Need 2 be tech savy) to delete SPAM ...
well-keep the suggestion fllowing fellow QUITTERS - Perhaps if we get enough votes / if the need is greaqt enough (I thnk so) then maybe becomeanex.org would permit a / chatroom (the / is for the possibility of multiple different issues that the rooms could be subdivided into) (FYI: I have a little technical know how (20 years exp) and would volunteer some of my time to assist if - it were to become reality...
But - again, we need (probably) a lot of voices that think a - or - several chat rooms would be more beneficial in regards to blogs...For immediate (typed responses - no voice/sound - to keep it reasonably low maintanence)
I came here in mid-May, so I don't know if we've ever had a chat room but the thing to keep in mind is the Admin here is not quick to respond....anyway you can see there were a lot of different GROUPS here that were not well-attended,so they couldn't have benefitted many here, compared to everybody being on the main BLOG...ALSO, NO ONE is PAID to work here....ALL of the elders and members just like us volunteer our time....hmmm
We could actually put up a "Chat Room" blog every day on one specific topic perhaps and everyone could express their views and rebuttals that way AND everyone could chime in when they wish to respnd.........much like the Freedom Train, BUT it would have to be approved and moderated I think....BUT we're behaving now and talking about a chat room so, seems OKAY by me...idk...what do U think?...
I think that's a fantasic idea. Wonder if the chat room could have a captcha test, which would probably eliminate the spam problem. The webmaster of this site would have to set it up on their server. I don't know the specifics, but since it's probably just a one-time set up with little to no maintence. Just a thought.
Alrigthy then - Love all of yah's favorable responses and will follow Cindy's advise and ask if Tommy can/will assist us! I think a whole lotta good could/will come out of this chat room!!!
If we can't get a chat room, how bout we all agree to a time when we could all be on at the same time and do like a iming thing back and fourth? Dum??? lol Just a thought...
Not a bad idea at all, good thought! The difference on the Chat room idea is that for emergencies (first timers on becomeanex.org-he/she has/gets/access to immediate attention). I remember perusing boards for years, how many times have I tried to reach out on a board (not necessarily becomeanex.org) I am very happy here and intend to stay!!!!!!!
Now let's see if we cannot get a Chat room please-I pledge time and support.....................
Quoting Cindy here: "Hey Pappa Tom....are you starting a ruckus out here?????LOL! Good idea on the chat room....maybe Tommy would be the one to ask....
Echoing Linda's - I too am from the original Ex site and it didn't have a chat room. Because the "groups" were strong and had their own "chats" so to speak within each group. It was a different platform which I preferred. Because each of us were responsible for our own groups. That is, the groups we created. We were in charge, had control and directed the momentum, the direction of where the 'chat' went.
Not having been a part of any "chat room" per se, don't really know what that's all about. (Though I have played a few games of backgammon on line and seen some of the kinds of just horrific comments made.) But I can imagine it could get very messy. The concept seems great, but the reality seems like it could be very dysfunctional, like in any family. And thus it would need constant supervision. Else many feeling would get hurt. There are too many fragile people that I have witnessed amongst the Exers, let alone in the quitting process which makes them even more vulnerable. So, although I think a chat room in an idealistic world would be just dandy, I believe in reality it might be a horror show. UNLESS you have someone constantly on board to smooth and unruffle feathers. And as we've noted too often on here, when feathers get ruffled they rarely go back to normal position. So...I'll leave my comment at that.
In the past I've thought about how nice an IM feature would be but we must consider the impact to how that would effect this sense of community. In a sence if you use the group feature you can accomplish the same thing as an IM. I just would hate to see folks only talking with a small gourp as opposed to keeping up with as many as possible here. Just a thought.
I tend to agree with Giulia (more often than not). Chat rooms do require constant supervision! We occasionally have a ruckus in the blogs where if can get pretty ugly! When that happens we invariably lose people who may leave just because they did not like the ruckus! Most of the people who are in said ruckus will stay! But it does run people off!
It is my considered opinion that a chat room could become a forum for constant rucki! I believe it would do more harm than good! It you want to have a "conversation" with someone you can do that by having everyone post on the same persons page! Example: You could post on my page and I could answer on my page! Anyone can join in! You really do not need a chat room! Just invite anyone you want to come talk on your page!
well-I wrote a book here a minute ago and was dumb enough not to make a copy-and or actually write it in Word first and then post it...Guess what...I got this red message from the board..."Something went wrong-please try again"
since I spent the better part of 50 - yes 50 minutes on my post that just got deleted by the boards timeout settings...:( I will reflect inwards - take a deep breath and a long break - before coming back to make my case again...:)
I hate it when that happens. AAAAAAArrrgh! And you can never re-create it just the way you had it. However, there's a way around it: Write it, then before you hit save, highlight and copy it. If the system throws you out, you just go back and paste it in. Or you can write it in your email program and save it as a draft, or in your word processing program, then copy and paste it. I don't know how long before things time out on here, but the kind of material we put out takes a lot of time thought. and it's soooo depressing when it all gets lost. Sorry Smurfy. Looking forward to the next version.
