I got fired today. From a job I've been at for 4 1/2 years that Ive hated for the last 3 1/2.

I wanted to leave so bad but never could make myself do it. Was always worried about what would happen.

Kinda like the 20 years I spent smoking cigarettes. Man I really would "like" to quit, but what will happen when I do? While it was hard initially, it gets easier. My life has become better as a result.

While initially, I was so angry that my job has treated me so bad for most of the duration of my employment, when I left out today it felt like I just dropped a 500lb gorilla off my back.

I no longer have to walk in that door and have that awful feeling that 8 hours of my life is about to be wasted again today. God, I've been in such a negative state for the last 3 1/2 years, and stressed myself out so much trying to get the approval of people who only approve of lies and deciet.

The lesson in all of this is that I have a choice, if something I am involved with in my life is detrimental to my health, physical or mental, it's my choice to allow it to drag me down or cut it loose.

I know I will find another job. One where ethics, morals, and integrity, along with a driving spirit to be the best you can be, are attributes that are recognized and rewarded. I am sure such places still exist. In the mean time while I'm looking for work, I think I'd like to do some volunteer work and help someone I don't even know just for the sake of doing something positive.

Life is too short to be wasted away allowing negative things to dominate your life.

Thank all of you for your encouragement and help with my quit, God bless you all.

Not sure what to say...sorry? Or congrats? Maybe a little of both, but definitely CONGRATS for making it through something like this without smoking.

That's a great attitude.  You are right, if a job is bringing you down making you ill and stressed it is better to be going a different direction.  The volunteer work that you chose may help lead you to a new position that will be uplifting.  Best wishes in whatever your future brings.  Hang onto your quit.  You need your health more than ever right now.

If I were a betting person, I'd bet that in 6 months or less this will turn out to be the best thing that happened to you......you sound like a very strong an dedicated person.  You will deal with this just like you did with your Quit....you will make it work!

Take care,

Cindy
