Why is it so difficult to not smoke while drinking?

It's Friday, the weekend is almost here, so it must be time for my weekly "don't drink" blog!

I found this to help answer the question:  How to remain smoke-free when you drink alcohol   Reading through it, I believe it might actually be an ad for their program, but I am not endorsing it - just relaying the information in it I thought might be helpful.

Please be careful this weekend.  A quit is a terrible thing to lose!

I have a hard and fast rule I follow:

Never drink around smokers.

I can drink when I'm with non-smokers, and I'm just fine. I don't crave at all. But if I have a drink around someone who is smoking, I almost immediately begin to think about bumming one. I CAN resist, but the urge is so strong, it's just not worth it to put myself and my quit at risk. So when I know I'm going to be around smokers, I choose not to imbibe. It's just easier.

And the answer is.........

We get stupid when we drink!   LOL!  Seriously tho, we think we can drink and drive, but we can't, we think we can pass a field sobriety test....but we can't.....why would we think we wouldn't want to smoke when we drink??   We wouldn't .... because drinking makes many people think they can do just one......Remember that just one is most always going to turn into more, and soon, you are back to square one.......

Don't do it!  Don't lost  your quit to alcohol......just don't!

About the Author
I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
