Why are you here?

You come here day after day, read the blogs, but somehow still think that you are the exception!!!  You're the ONE person who can have 'just one.'  You're the one person whose life crisis IS justification to smoke.   Really?  Seriously?  Do you see how many people on here.....WHO'VE BEEN WHERE YOU ARE AND ARE WHERE YOU SAY YOU WANT TO BE......tell you "There's no such thing as just one, smoking won't help whatever it is you're going through, come here BEFORE you smoke etc., etc., etc?"  But you know better, right?

Below is an excerpt from a blog I posted on......if you REALLY want to quit, you will listen to those who have!

"There will always be something that will present itself as the exception and reasonable justification to have a cigarette.  This is a deadly addiction that you are battling and you need to be vigilant and smart!!!  You've read the posts on here, you see what we are all saying, if you won't listen to what we are telling you, we can't help you.

There are no exceptions - Success = N.O.P.E.!!!!"

Yes Connie.  This is so true.  I understand that people can relapse and I can feel hopeful for that person unless they CONTINUE to make excuses, blame others, blame circumstances.  When someone does that...it IS hopeless.  Because as you said, there will ALWAYS be "circumstances" (even Candy Land has it nasty parts), there will always be  vexing people, there will always be the flu, rain storms, dust storms, pot holes, naughty pets, rude drivers...the list goes on and on.  If someone insists on believing that the problem is external not internal, if someone can not face the lies of addiction he/she will fall off the same cliff over and over.  If they get angry at the people who try to help them out that horrible cycle, then, yes, why come here?

I know I can not have just one smoke ever for any reason. I don't want anything or anyone to jeopordize my quit.  I have decided that if there is someone in my life I believe will be a problem for my quit, I will distance myself to protect myself.

I can not afford to smoke.  My life, my sanity, My self esteem depends on me remaining smoke free.  When I started smoking again, I felt like a complete and total failure and that sense carried over to so many areas of my life.

Never again, NOPE, can't happen.

Connie, Thank You for your posts.  Thank you for your commitment to this site, your helping hand of support and your words of wisdom

As CRAZY or EXAGERRATED or DRAMATIC as it sounds.....I found that when I was drifting into thinking like that it was helpful to ask myself.....

Would this make as much sense if I was saying---"oh well, one more shot of heroine won't hurt---just one...one more hit of acid...one more snort of cocaine."

We are addicts....drug addicts. Our "drug" is a little more "acceptable" to society... but not by much....and it is just as addicting. Addiction, is addiction is addiction.

Don't smoke.

Not crazy at all!!!!  If more people thought of it that way, we'd probably have an even higher success rate here!!!!!
