Who Should Be Screened for Lung Cancer?

You might be at risk for lung cancer and screening is the key to early detection.

When lung cancer is diagnosed at an early stage it is more likely to be curable.

  • Are you between the ages of 55 and 80?
  • Have you smoked in the last 15 years?
  • Calculate how many pack years you've smoked.

Take the Quiz and see if you should be screened  https://www.lung.org/our-initiatives/saved-by-the-scan/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxLe-lo6J6AIVjoCfCh2RUQ_aEA...

Great!  I'm so glad you saw this.  I learned about this while attending a smoking cessation group and a radiologist sat in on one of our meetings.  He shared this information with us.

My husband has gotten several calls & letters from Vanderbilt asking him to come in for 1. He hasn't yet. Guess I'll hafta make the appt for him, as usual.

I get bronchitis 2 or 3 times a year with my asthma so every 3 or 4 months I get chest xrays. Not sure if that counts.

My dad died of lung cancer after he'd quit smoking for 30 years.

I'm sure this test saved my life, by finding a very small cancer very early on.  I'm now 3 years post treatment and doing well, with no recurrences.

Thanks for the reminder.  It is very very important.  Once you have symptoms, it may well be too late to cure.

I've gotten one on the recommendation from several on this site.  Heavy-duty smokers should definitely avail themselves of that test. Early detection can help save your life.

I'd like the screening but I am 51 years old.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Hi MartyO, Talk to your primary care physican about getting a script for the Low Dose CT Scan.  If your insurance won't cover it, shop around at imaging centers or the cancer center at your local hospital for pricing.  The self pay cost is very reasonable.
