I have been smoke free for over 2 years and 5 months now.  I find that the key to long term success really has to do with seeing yourself in a different light.  The day I quit I made the decision that smoking was no longer acceptable in my life, and since then how I view myself has changed from that of a smoker to that of a quitter to that of someone who is in control.

I hated not being in control of my actions and being controlled by nicotine and cigarettes.  It made me feel weak.  That was one of the driving forces behind my quit.

For each person it is different and personal, though.  I took me one morning to quit, after years of attempts.  I hope that knowledge helps you out there who have tried and failed before to keep at it.  It will happen eventually, just don't give up.

Good luck getting to tomorrow everyone

Feeling controlled by cigarettes is what helped me to get disgusted enough to quit.  Being duped by the cigarette companies is another.  And I have "tried" quitting at least 4 or 5 times before as opposed to this time when I have finally quit.  The more I'm tempted the more I dig my heels in.  I'm with ya.  Joy to all the other quitters who have joined us.

Hi Corey,

An inspirational blog, I must say. Some of it is quite funny because i am now able to see the humor in my own life without cigarettes and how ridiculous the "reward" factor was. MY inspiration these days is that I put aside the $8 a day I used  to waste on cigarettes and each week, (this being week one), I take the money and smile. I made $64 this week. What was I thinking??? But all in all I really have to say that my main concern and my ever present concept about doing good, is just that, doing good. Not just for me, but for everyone. We all can measure our accomplishments with the number of people we have touched each day. If we can inspire one person to make a "good" choice in the world, then our reason for being is as it was meant to be. This is so radical, and yet one of the simplist things anyone can do. Think of others. Help others. Expand your thought to the world. Do good for yourself and you do good for the world around you.

Life is good, and thank you for being!

Peace, Gary
