Hmmmm???  Never had anyone tell me they retained water from quitting, but I would believe about anything at this point!!  I'm sure quitting effects everyone differently....I wonder if you take a diuretic if that would solve the problem until your body adjusts to the quit???!!!!  Just an idea....hope it works out!!

swelling of the hands and feet are symptoms to something more serious i would have a check up could be anything from diabetes to heart problems... or just too much salt in diet... see a doctor right away especially if its painful...

I had bloating and water retention around week 2.  That part is better now.  I'm having problems with using the bathroom still but it's slowly working itself out.  One thing I noticed around the time of the water retention though was that my sodium intake was unusually high.  You might try watching that and drinking more water.

not sure if it was "water retention", I just called it an icky, bloated feeling, but yes. Weeks 1 and 2. Bathroom issues too. By week 3 it was all pretty much normal again. I never had anything with my hands though... follow izzy's advice and consider talking to your doc about that part.  Hang in there!

This may sound weird, but before you panic and start taking dangerous drugs. Drink more water.  Water retension can be reduced by increasing our daily intake of water.

Also... take a look at your sodium intake.  eating any salty snack food lately?

YEP---had that---and Greg is correct....I used to drink a lot of water and many liquids when I smoked because smoking made my mouth sooooooooo dry. I NEVER smoked without something liquid and I smoked a lot. the cigs went so the liquids decreased BUT----then I retained water. Drink more water...it seems backwards---but it works.
