Waiting for the weekend!!!

So this weekend i'm going out of town with a buddy of mine to meet up with another buddy. I realized last night that I will face two big challenges this weekend. 1. I smoked like a freight train when I drive I don't know why I just do. My parents live about six hours from me and it would be no big deal for me to smoke almost a whole pack of smokes in that six hours. So I am a little nervous about driving. 2. Alcohol. Most of us that smoke know that we all become little chimney's when we drink. This is especially true for me as well. But I am going into this weekend with the mindset that i've already would've made it almost seven days by the time the weekend gets here so I really have no excuse for smoking. It's a challenge an obstacle if you will and me personally I love a good challenge. So I feel good about this weekend but I also have that little part of my brain that's saying maybe this isn't such a good idea it's too soon, you're not ready. But i'm not going to quit living my life with the fear that if I go somewhere i'll smoke. I'm going to live my life just how I always have with one exception. No cigarettes.

Just make sure you do what you need to do to Protect Your Quit.  If you feel a gut feeling you need to put this off for a while, follow that gut.

I am RIGHT with you this weekend ... I've got a 3 hour drive to the lake, and a weekend that will be surrounded by food, lake water, family, smokers, and alcohol. It's going to be all my biggest triggers in one little room! I went through the thought of not going at first but I'm like you, my sister will be there from college and this is the only time I may be able to see her before Thanksgiving. Am I going to give up that special time all because of cigarettes? I think cigarettes has had enough control over my life, I'm not going to let it have anymore.

In the car, I'm going to enjoy the clean air, my new air freshener, and a dashboard free of ashes. I'm going to take in the beautiful lake scenery without the usual cloud of smoke surrounding me, and when around other smokers, i'm going to pat myself on the back for getting over a hurdle that so many are still suffering with.

To Katie and Don:

I just went thru this about 2 weeks ago....

Your drives are going to be difficult, make sure you clean your vehicle on the inside..airfrshners are nice..bring some gum... different flavors.., it may help to leave very early in the morning...I woke up at 4am, so I was at my destination at 10:30am all the while traveling with a 6 month old puppy on my own. That was the drive...

The visiting with the smokers and drinkers and to find out my other half that was supposed to quit... had been smoking... WAS REALLY DIFFICULT. At times, I had to walk away, in fear that I would fail... when you have th urge, walk away, wiggle those fingers, take deep breaths of FRESH AIR!!!

You can do this, I did it, millions of people have done it! Its not easy, but prove to yourself that you are better than ciggarettes, because you are! If you need ANY help at all on how to deal or things to do in the car.... let me know... I was just there and that was one of my biggest fears....

If you can... hold off on the heavy drinking... drinking to me was hand and hand with a smoke....if you really want to quit, you have to change some things temporarily.
