Am in Ohio. I really haven't been paying much attention to the news as our weather here can change by the minute it seems LOL. As all gets closer, i will watch. For right now, its rainy and cold.

Not sure where you are, but yes...Sandy is big and bad and mean...and on her way. I am in her path..we are being told to evacuate or take shelter.. This storm will make history..Check out the east coast weather channel online. Pray for new york...they are going to have a devastating beating. They are now evacuating over 400,000 people.. and Ocean city may be leveled. I can't beleive after hurricane Irene last year it could get any worse. We are all a bundle of nerves here.

MarcieWhosoever

@  Janetlynn, I am in Michigan, so we are ok here. Where do you live? IN NY?

@ shawn, I heard Ohio may feel it too, Who knows. Yes the weather can change fast. I am wondering how they can predict which way it will go days in advance?

@ Joni, I hope your parents will listen, it sounds bad. Of coarse I will pray and wont stop.

Hi,

I'm in southeast Pennsylvania.  We have flood and wind alerts from Monday morning until Tuesday night.  They are expecting power outages also.  At the moment it's rainy and cloudy.

I'm pretty well stocked up in case we lose power.  They say it should be over on Tuesday.  Power loses could go longer.

Northeast Quadrant of the storm will have the higest winds! Storm will have an eye! Do not go out side when it calms down! There will be a back side coming! Not as strong but still dangerous!

I'm in the Albany, NY area. Not sure if we are in the path at this point. Last year during Irene, we caught some of it and surrounding counties and Vermont got hit pretty hard. We are prepared with a generator just in case.

MarcieWhosoever

@ ma2bug- your right upto 600 miles inland should prepare. Where are you from?

@ Tommy 🙂  I will look for the update..thanks  much for these charts..

Glad you are safe there in Fl.

Hey, where did you get these charts from?

MarcieWhosoever

@tommy, wow good idea about the eye and not going out when it calms. We'll take it from a pro on hurricanes there in Florida! Thanks

@Patty-cake  Glad you are prepared just in case! We all know weather does exactly what its wants to do...

The 2:00 PM advisory shows no changes! The eye appears to be headed ashore in southern NJ! The worst of the storm will occur at points North of the eye! That does not mean the points south of the eye are safe! Just that it will not be as bad there!

Marcie, these charts are available at the National Hurricne Center website!

I am in Wilmington NC - Hurricane Central we call it 🙂 We had winds around 40 and steady rain for 2 days. We've learned to take the storms seriously and prepare mentally and physically for safety. The Northeast is really heavy on my heart. This storm is Large-Late in season- & Lazy-- It could possibly build up in category strength winds and really knock Jersey and NY for a loop- and hitting a cold front-SCARY

Today is the day to prepare- Gas Up-Get Cash-  Leave if you are on the Coast or in a low lying area- prepare for power outtages - get that bread and peanut butter & water- pack a bag for 3 days for everyone in your home- and get your medicines and important papers together-make plans for your pets- and elderly family

Better Safe than Sorry

God Bless

I am also praying.  Seems like we all know someone or have family in the vicinity.  I have a dear friend who lives 1/2 mile from the ocean.  She has plenty of food, D batteries, flashlights, etc. She even has her kayak and life vests ready for her and her children.

She's joking about it, but better to be over prepared.

Thanks for the post, Marcie.  One place where everyone can vent.

Thanks Marcie and all for all the insight of this very nasty storm. Who would ever think that a hurricane would hit the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Soul! From the looks of Tommy's weather chart above we do have a lot to be concerned about here in Phila. We are prepared with plenty of water, peanut butter, flashlights and batteries. I'll stay in touch through the blogs.

I live in the Washington DC area.

Here's the list of major airports that are closing as of tonight:
Washington Dulles, Reagan, Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, LaGuardia, JFK, Newark.

Here's the list of large regional airports that are closed: Richmond, Norfolk, Charleston, Clarksburg, Morgantown, Allentown, Wilkes Barre, Harrisburg, White Plains, Hartford, Providence.

The following airports are on "tactical alert": Raleigh-Durham, Shenandoah, Charlottesville, Johnstown, Altoona, State College, Pittsburg, Ithaca, Syracuse, Binghamton, Albany, Portland, Manchester, Burlington.

Because my life revolves around what is going on at airports, that is the thermometer I use to measure the severity of weather events.  And I have NEVER seen so many airports closed or on tactical alert all at the same time.  Just sayin'...

So take care, PLEASE, everyone!  The DC area, where I am, is not expected to get hit as badly as the coast further north, but schools are closed tomorrow in DC, Northern Virginia and much of Maryland.  Businesses are closing down.  Grocery stores are empty and we are stocked up on supplies. We've been told to expect to lose power for several days...

I am in md, south of washington dc. and on the water...the chesapeake bay actually. Were on a pennisula, so we have the potomac river, patuxent river and the ches. bay all at our door step. Last year Irene tore us apart here. We still see signs of it every day even after 16 months. Now Sandy is on her way...and appears to be worse then Irene.

Doing ok here so far..still have power. Storm is due in late tonight and last thru tuesday. Never had a 2 day hurricane before! It coming late in the night makes it scarier...we can't see the damage that is happening around us. They have advised areas nearby to evacuate and they have opened shelters here. We have a full house generator so we are staying put.

I am just gonna be a bundle of worry til the morning because of my horses. They are closer to the water and in a low lying area that is exposed to the wind. My thoughts are with anyone affected by this! Stay safe you all!

As I sit here in the just rainy Northwest - Know that I am thinking of you all and my prayers are with you. And remember, the storm will hit whether you smoke or not. So please make it a not.

Current track brings the eye of the storm ashore in southern Ney Jersey around 5 AM Tuesday! It may or may not still, be a hurricane at that point! The worst of the storm will arrive ahead of the eye making landfall! Water is much more of an issue than wind! The worst of the storm surge will be north of landfall!!

That should be good news for you and your horses, Janetlynn. If the projected path holds, the "Right Hook" of the storm should push water out of the Chesapeake Bay! The "Left Hook" or back side of the storm, which is weaker will push water back in!

I hope everyone has their preparation complete! Now just take a deep breath, say a prayer for each other and see what happen next! Everyone post as you can! Have phone numbers handy! If you want mine contact me with a PM! We will all get through this together!

I'm in CT so were on the high wind area of the storm. Stores here have been jammed daily since friday. Water sells out every day , Most batteries can not be found, And some of the gas stations have no gas. I was having a party Saturday night for halloween so I waited until today to prepare. Had alot from last year when we got hit with a snow storm at this time. Just needed to get food things and containers to hold large amounts of water for the toilet. Tried the bathtub last year but it all went down the drain by morning. I am in the middle of the state so it won't be as bad as the coastal areas.  But we will probably lose power. Oh well we will just make the best of it and isn't it great to not have to stock up on Cigs. this time. Makes me real glad to be a non smoker.

Tommy, I trust you more than I do the weather people!

Here in Central PA I am hearing about 2 storms and another front that are due to show up here all at the same time.  I don't know if the concern is more for high winds or for heavy rainfall.  We are fairly protected by the mountains here, but we are also surrounded in most parts by good-sized creeks and rivers and so much of the area will flood.

For the first time ever in my memory, our electric company just sent us an automated phone call to say, Look out there may be power outtages.

Hmmmmm.

Jordan-11-1-12

Cape Cod, Mass here.

not looking forward to evacuating since we only have two bridges that connect us to the mainland. even though we'll have major street flooding, they're more worried about the wind here, and I'm conserned about how long we'll be without power since my mom needs electricity for her oxygen machine. She has portables but they're only hours worth and need the big machine to refill. she stops breathing at night if she's not hooked up to the machine.

Bonnie is in Maine.  She has her daughter and daughter's boyfriend with her.  I am, like you  Marcie, so worried, and praying so very hard for all in this storm's path.  Papa is o.k. so far, so good.

I am in Baltimore Maryland.  Gusting in the 40's here and still raining hard.  I am not near the water, so not in danger of flooding.  It is only 47 degrees here, though, so it will be chilly if we lose power.  I believe Barbara is in Maryland, as well.

MarcieWhosoever

thanks Youngatheart. Stay safe and check in now and then ok?

@Owl, ok good you asre safe. Along with my Maggie.... 🙂

Just checked out a hurricane tracker.  Sandy is to be here at 2 AM.  I've tryed to get ready for power outages.  I'm on a hill, in a highrise, on the seventh floor.  There's not any water very near either.  Praying for all in the hurricane path.

Hey Owl, I am in Michigan. Been in contact with friends in the city. One just lost power. One friend in evacuation zone A and one friend in evacuation zone B. So far they have only evacuated Zone A.

I live in Springfield, VA, but I came to Chicago for the weekend and now can't get another flight out until at least Wednesday...I want to drive home tomorrow, but we looked at the weather in Ohio and Pennsylvania and decided it wasn't worth it. I'm okay and out of the storm's path, but my exchange student, former-housemate-cum-dog/house/babysitter and my baby dog are all at my place. Last I heard, they still had power.

Oh, so good to hear from you Lisa!  Thank you for checking in!  Just heard from Bonnie, they keep losing power in and out.  She is in her basement, looks like a category 2  as it comes into Cape May.  So far she has a way to check in, until the power goes out.

Glad you're safe, Brenda and Lisa.  Don't be driving, Brenda.

MarcieWhosoever

Oh yea@ lisa! I forgot you are in Michigan with me 🙂

@Brenda, you must be worried being separated. Hang in there...

@Owl, thanks for the update on Bonnie

I’m in Texas I think I will be ok. I see on the online news page that we might get some light rain on Saturday, heavy rain on Sunday, and light rain on Monday in my area.  I hope you and your family will be ok through this storm.  My prayers are with everyone.
