I am a microsoft customer and they call me periodically to see if I am having any problems. I had just gotten off of our site at 5p last night and I was eating supper and the phone rang. They said it was microsoft and they were just checking on my computer. They said they had several calls and warning that hackers were in my area and they wanted to check and see if they had infected my computer. I thought that was nice and went to my computer for them to go through their normal check and they said there were 3 different hackers trying to get into my system. I got Trend micro security which I thought was not working like it should. They said they had an excellent program for $49.95 for 5 years. Well of course that is a good bargin especially if microsoft is recommending it. I gave them my debit card number and they went to process it and said the bank denied it so they tried it again and it was denied again. Well I was really worried because I do all of my banking online. He connected me with the billing department and they finally got it straight. The caller continued to fix the issues with my computer and calls me back and says the money came out of my account twice and he tried to withdraw the one charge and the bank wouldn't allow it. He said what he was going to do was to send the money from western union to my bank account and to call the bank and tell them to expect money from western union so I did so. It seems after the call he was still having trouble returning the double charge. Mind you now , it is 9:30 pm and I am getting sleepy and cranky. I told him I had to get off the phone and to call me in the morning. About 10:30 pm last night, he called again and I think I may have said a few curse words becasue I was sound asleep.
Here I am wanting to chat with my family for support and I can't get on computer because he says he is working on it. At 7:30 am this morning the phone rangs and it is him again. Now what he said sent the red flags went up. He told me he had sent the money to western union and I needed to go pick it up and then send it back to him and he would mail me $200.00- a full refund plus $100 for my inconvenience. The red flag went up and I told him no I would not. Let me make a long long story short- they took $220.00 out of my bank account and had 10 requests behind that which I stopped by calling the bank right away. Then I called microsoft and told them what happened and the hackers had control of my laptop and it costs me $249.00 and 4 more hours of my time to straighten things out. I called the police and they couldn't be bother, then I called the FBI and they couldn't be bothered either. Gonna call the state police in a few. Through all of this i did not smoke once. I am not saying I wasn't tempted but then I thought it won't change things so why do something that I will hate myself for tomorrow. I am really down because I trusted someone again and I was taken advantage of again.
