That is terrifying and I know people who swear by the damn things.

It's absolutely terrifying but yet people still use them, I wish that they could be taken off the store shelves so people would be forced to quit using them!

I know a guy who started vaping to stop smoking - over 2 years ago.  He basically traded one habit for another in my opinion.

Trading one addiction for another one just as dangerous or more and sadly a lot of people end up doing both! Thanks for the articles, Nancy, YoungAtHeart

I started vaping in 2014 to help me stop smoking. it is 3/5/17 and I'm still vaping, spending over 100.00 month to do so, and ending up with sinus and throat infections periodically from inhaling burning steam all day.

The proponents of vaping tend to minimize the fact that most people never let it go. I'm going to tell you why: They never allowed themselves to unlearn the psychological connection. That is the habit part. The hand to mouth and inhale ritual.

That's the way to let it go and be free. The nicotine is 10% of the connection so, once you stop using it, it's impact is minimized.

The Surgeon General, the Food and Drug Administration, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention all agree: Vaping is not a good idea! Is it less dangerous than smoking? Yes. But that's like saying that arsenic is less poisonous than cyanide! Vaping  involves inhaling an aerosol that typically consists of propylene glycol, glycerin, water, flavoring and nicotine. Doesn't sound so threatening does it?

Propylene glycol is a solvent in the paint and plastics industries.

Glycerin is is classified as a sugar alcohol that may cause diarrhea, excessive urination and dehydration. Other possible side effects include nausea, vomiting and headache. Some less common side effects that warrant immediate medical attention include confusion and irregular heartbeat.

E-cigarette flavors carry serious risks of lung damage specifically bronchiolitis obliterans a.k.a. "popcorn lung." The hazards associated with inhaling flavoring chemicals have been acknowledged for more than a decade. One ingredient in the flavors is diacetyl.  Current evidence points to diacetyl as one agent that can cause flavorings-related lung disease. Other flavoring ingredients may also play a role.

Various studies suggest the vapors from e-cigarettes contain several cancer-causing substances, as well as incredibly tiny particles of tin, chromium, nickel and other heavy metals, which, in large enough concentrations, can damage the lungs. These particles likely fleck off the solder joints or metal coil in the devices when heated. Because they are so small, the tiniest bits of metal, known as nanoparticles, can travel deep into the lungs. There they could exacerbate asthma, bronchitis—an inflammation of the tubes that carry air to and from the lungs—and emphysema—a disease in which the lungs' many air sacs are destroyed, leaving patients short of breath.

And then there's nicotene - a nerve poison. https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/71066-nicotine-the-nerve-poison?sr=search&searchId=dd563f...‌.

So what's safe about e-cigarettes? Water.

Water is safe to drink.

Perhaps not as steam 50 times a day.  🙂

jasona‌, is there a possibility that you are quitting the vaping?  I sure hope that's why you are here.  I would think that your quit journey would be the same as those of us recovering from our smoking addictions.  Please decide your plan and read all that you can about addiction.  We are all here to help you in any way that we can.

Yes Ellen, you are right. Unlearning vaping is unlearning the same process as smoking.

They are identical in almost all respects as far as the ritual of smoking goes.

People who choose vaping after smoking never realized there is a way to quit and that is simply understanding what it takes and the steps of the process and the milestones to attain.

About the Author
I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
