What can you do to keep yourself busy? You need to develop a new routine that does not involve smoking. Jones is right, you can't dwell on it, that is where the "crazy" part comes in. Take some deep breaths, drink a large glass of water, maybe brush your teeth, or try a breath mint to get rid of the taste. Go for a bike ride or a walk. Eat some healthy snacks, play a game online. ANYTHING but smoking. YOU CAN DO THIS!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!! ALSO, I NEVER KNEW THE PATCHES ARE JUST TO TAKE THE EDGE OFF, AND BOTH OF YOU ARE RIGHT!!!! I LOVE FRUIT, SO I WILL DOUBLE UP ON MY LUNCH BAG TOMORROW. THANKS!!!
You have a long hard battle ahead of yourself. You can do this, but know that you are an addict. That means you have to fight the hardest enemy you will ever face. He is very tricky. He knows you as well as you know yourself. He knows your weeknesses and how to use them against you. He, the addict, is you. Go forth an concur.
Jonescarp is right - the more you dwell on it, the more nuts you will become. Focus elsewhere - anywhere. Get busy. Dig in the garden, clean a closet, organize you junk drawer, chew on carrots - anything to keep busy. Drink a lot to flush out the toxins. And don't "over patch" yourself.
You can do this. It gets easier - we promise because we have done it and none of us have gone crazy (well, I'm assuming here). Let us know how you are doing. It's worth the discomfort - 100 times over, believe me. One, two days max and then you will be on your way!
Think positive and how happy you will be to be smoke-free. We LOVE it and you will, too.
I'm on Day 12. 6 days ago, I didn't realize until 4pm that I never put a patch on at all that day! I haven't used one since. Proof positive that when you're not thinking about, you're not thinking about it. Besides, nicotine is what we are addicted to. Why substitute smoking it with transdermal use? How will adding nicotine to a body stop its addiction to it? I'm working on a 2,000 piece puzzle of a map of the world right now...I'm ultra-focused!
PLease understand your addiction and why you smoke and why it's driving you NUTS. It's not a habit, it's an addiction and you need the knowledge to be able to beat it. Try www.whyquit.com and www.quitsmokingonline.com, they really helped me understand what was happening, once you know it gets easier. You Can Do This, with love...Linda
I wish you the best with your quit. The addiction can be beat. It takes a lot of focus. You have to remember at all times why it is you wanted to quit. Keep really busy and chew a lot of gum or candies. Drink plenty of water or juice. Take care and stay strong.
Thank you for a gooooddd laugh. That was exactly how I felt on day one, two, three, five, etc. I didn't put on two patches because I knew I wasn' t supposed to but I go through the house yelling " I want a cigarette". For some reason it helps me if I scream it loud enough (probably makes me deep breathe). Yes, it is an addiction and the more you learn about it the better you will be. Try the previously mentioned websites. Tell everyone you know you are quit and trying to stay quit. Talk/read this site when you feel weak and respond to other people because it helps me when I feel like I'm loosing my mind. Know that it is supposed to get better and that you owe it to yourself to try. Sometimes I dwell on it, sometimes, I'm so strong I surprise myself. You have it in you. Believe in yourself. God Bless.
