Trying again .....

A couple of people have asked how I’m getting on so...

I hold my head in shame, I gave up for 3days!!! Carried on smoking and breastfeeding. Since then, I have weaned the baby off breastfeeding slowly, over the last two weeks and started Champix this morning! I know there will be the haters out there who say breast is best however I gave up with Champix for 5 years, years ago and started again one drunken foolish night so I know it works...for me! (Plus: my daughter has had a bottle at night for a while as a hungry baby and has took to the transition very well)

I figure giving up smoking will benefit all of my children, more, in the long run than breastfeeding for an extra couple of months. I am still determined and I not looking at my failure as a bad thing but more a stepping stone. My quit date is the 12th which is 9 days into the tablet taking. In the meantime I will be cutting down and thinking to the future.

This quit thing is a learning experience.  Learn from your past and don't repeat.  Whatever works for you, you do it!  I agree, formula is probably better then nicotine filled breast milk but of course I am no expert   Good for you for having a plan!

Almost all experts say that smoking whilst breastfeeding is better than giving up breastfeeding!!!  Obviously they all say to give up smoking but if not the benefits of bf outweigh the negatives of nicotine!! so with that it has taken me 2 weeks of me doubting myself and going around in circles as to what’s best.  Your right it is a learning experience.

Oh wow.  I did not know that.  See.  I told you I was no expert.  LOL.  Very interesting.  Thanks.  I learned something new today.

It seems crazy doesn’t it. In the end I had to go against the apparent experts and follow my heart! Lol,

Good for you for coming right back here with a new plan!  Most of us here have messed up so many times, I'd be surprised if you find any haters or judgers here.  My only advice would be to change your mindset if possible from "trying to quit" to "deciding to quit".  By only "trying", you give yourself permission to fail.

Thank you for having the courage to come back and "do" quitting again. I say do, because trying quite frankly may not be enough.  I do believe that you can quit this ugly thing in your life called smoking.  Just think about it.  Even the word smoking sounds weird for a human.  Our bodies were not made for such. Continue to use your motherly instincts.   Learn as much as you can about nicotine addiction.  A wise elder once told me that education is the key to a successful quit and l live by that.

Make your quit the number one priority.  Read Study Blog. Prepare for a forever quit.   Do not take the suggested reading lightly, it is very important.  Start from the beginning.   Here is some material that you may find helpful.  For Our New Years' Quitters (and community members, too)  /blogs/SkyGirl-blog/2017/06/05/newbies-start-creating-your-tool-box Get a plan and work your plan.  We are here to support you, lean on us. I believe you can "do" this

I think you are doing GREAT.  Quitting smoking is HUGE and it is best for you AND your kids...I breastfed for a long time and then got sick with rheumatoid arthritis and had to wean my daughter...lots of haters judged me for breastfeeding for so long...I did what I wanted to do and felt was best for my daughter and myself and it worked out!

I am proud of you.

Glad you're back to give it another go.  The more time you spend reading on here, the more mind reinforcement you'll get.  Quitting takes a lot of reinforcement.  It's all about changing our thinking.  You might go to Relapse Prevention‌ and daily read a different blog there and also read one in Best of EX‌.  Even if you've read them before, sometimes we need to read things a couple of time so that sink in.

Sarahhlj   I breastfed my babies and smoked.  I really didn't know all that much about chemicals in cigarettes....
