Because I had quit smoking in my house years before I quit, my smoking habit was after I finished doing anything and everything.   You know what I mean?   Finish the dishes, go outside and smoke.  Finish a movie, go smoke, etc, etc.   So I figured that, I was transitioning from one task to another by smoking.  Aside from the nicotine fix cigarette to keep my brain happy.  So I still get that restless feeling when I am going from one task to another.  But  I  will just find some other way to decompress after work.  After all millions of non smokers do it everyday.  Right?  I can too and be happy.

Yea I am the same way. Like little rituals or something. Strang how we train our brain. I guess it is why it is hard to retrain your brain. We will get there from here. I know we will

I was the same way! But I smoked inside! When I called the smokers help line and they ask about triggers ... I'm like well everything! Literally everything I do and every emotion is a trigger! Happy sad mad lonely bored in pain not in pain... waking up going to sleep... after dishes after sweeping during and after watering the lawn! LOL LITERALLY EVERYTHING! it has been hard not to light up and hard to break that habit but I see now it was just that.. a habit, more of reaching for lighting and inhaling, even when I didn't "need" a smoke I was smoking! You can do this! Congratulations on your journey so far!

Same with me.  My biggest trigger has been upon completion of doing something and when I sit down at my desk, which is usually after getting up to do something.  Took some effort to redirect my thoughts of "I'm supposed to be doing something (smoking) right now.  The rubberband on the wrist helped me with that.  Snap out of it!!

Recognizing triggers and preparing for them is a huge key to success.  There certainly is a habit factor involved but it IS an addiction and, as such, needs to be treated as one. Write down your triggers, if you have ten pages of triggers...you need ten pages of what you will do when you feel one.  Eventually, it does get easier.  I am not at the altogether easy point yet but I will get there and I am convinced that anyone can.

Started out the same way, and it does get easier the more days you stack. Keep on keepin' on.

That was my biggest triger too, like you said do the dishes, have a cig, what I did was after a finished a chore I would sit down and have a glass of water or diet coke. I smoked outside so I eventually was able to sit where I smokedand have a glass of water or a pepsi!!!

Keep going forward, it get better

I STILL get a smoking "memory" when I finish a chore.  Easy to get past - but it is still there.  I guess I smoked for so long, it will take awhile!

Carry on, everyone.  Find something else to use to reward yourself.....like, perhaps, a Werthers?

Sounds like a common problem, so I'm learning to either go on to the next task or get on here deep breaths.  @nancy  yes those  Werthers are good.
