I can't remember why Friday was so weird, but today was the first day that I actually a significant amount of time to spend working. I'm a writer and I work from home. One of my issues with being a secret smoker is the fact that I was spending a lot of time away from home smoking, and not working, like I should have been. On Thursday I had jury duty, and Friday wasn't a normal workday (although I can't remember why), so today was the first day I had to really test out to see how much money smoking was actually losing me each day.
I get paid based on how much I write. I'm a content writer, so the more work I do, the more I get paid. I had guessed that each day I spent smoking, I was giving away about $50 in income. That number was really low, actually. By my estimation, each day I spent sneaking away to smoke meant I was giving away about $75. That's a lot of money! I can't believe I was giving that much away. My income is going to go up so much!
I'm really glad I paid attention to what I made today, compared to what I was making on the days I'd sneak away to smoke. This was exactly the kind of information I needed.
