Share your quitting journey

To my Daddy!

When I want to smoke I just remind myself of the reasons I quit, how many times I've quit before because I don't want to do it again, how many days it's been since I stopped, how if I don't stop I'll just be dead from smoking, and I will have to have an oxygen tank where ever I go.  Picture that!  I really wanted to smoke last night and it went on for hours but I got through just picturing me pushing around an oxygen tank and seeing my father and father-in-law (in my minds eye) trying to breath the last couple of years of their lives.  Smokers dying from smoking have the same breath sounds and do the same thing.  They breath in through the mouth and out through the mouth and the upper lip sticks out just a little so that it overlaps the bottom lip.  You can hear them as they gasp for air with each breath.  At first they only do this anytime they have to exert themselves but as time goes on it gets more and more as they end up spending hours a day with an oxygen tank gasping for air.  In between the times they are gasping for air they pull out their cigarette for one more killer puff.  It breaks my heart to write this and remember my Dad as he lived his last days in the hospital clinging to life and gasping for air.  I am a Daddys Girl for sure and loved him and I miss him so much.  When I think of wanting a cigarette now I just think of my dad.

I love you, Daddy and I quit for you! (as the tears stream down my face)

About the Author
I was on the Ex community for a couple of years and got extremely busy and was unable to get on the community. I came back to see how others were doing and missed being here. I'm married, I have 3 grown children, 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 1 on the way, and 3 soon to be step grand sons. I love to go to church and love to read my bible.
