I smoked for 44 years, then quit last May 15.  My lungs hurt for about 3 weeks.  So bad it scared me at first, but slowly got better.  Then would occasionally recur maybe another 5 months.  That's just my experience.  Everyone is different.

Thanks cause it did scare me but I don't want it  to be an excuse, afterwards that's how I felt

What do you guys mean your lungs hurt? Is it when you breath or cough they hurt, or a general ache all the time? I'm just curious because this didn't happen to me. I smoked for 22 years and had a lot of the side affects but not the hurting lungs. Maybe you can find out why that's happening from your doctor. It's probably your body healing but that would freak me out too.

My lungs didn't hurt either and I smoked for 39 years. What I did feel was tightening on the left side of my chest. I though it was heart ache?

My lungs hurt, too, for about 3 or 4 weeks.  It was like a constant ache or pressure.  I asked the community about it, too.

Many have complained of a "tightness in chest".  I did not have any pain that I can remember.  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/expert-advice/blog/2017/08/16/chest-pain?sr=search&sear...  here is a blog from the experts on the subject.  Suggests seeking professional medical advice.

Glad you are going for tests......my opinion is any kind of tightness or lung hurting should be checked out by a doctor especially if it goes on for awhile. A twinge is one thing........continuing for weeks?......look into it. We all smoked for many years and so there can certainly be underlying health problems you don't want to overlook.

I think I experienced a tightness of the lungs when I fist quit. But Thomas, another member told me that they actually put chemicals in cigarettes to mask what we'd feel were they not there. I don't know for sure, but I think a lot of those physical things we feel when we quit are actually something that was always there. We just didn't know it. Really, the people that make cigarettes do their best to murder their customers in order to make money. Strange business they have if you ask me. Anyway, stay safe and never lose your resolve. The world that awaits you when you quit is amazing!!
