The first 24 hours of the rest of my long and healthy life

Wow. The first 24 hours absolutely suck. I woke up and just laid there for a few minutes just thinking about smoking. I thought to myself "well what's the worst that could happen if I just took one drag of my E-Cig" or "I will just take one drag and then I will be actually be done for good". But of course that's a lie. Its never just one drag or just a tiny hit. That "one hit" leads right back to smoking every ten minutes, can't be in the car without it, can't leave the house without it, and finding an excuse to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes to smoke. I am 19 years old, since December of 2017 I have not gone more than 8 hours without smoking. For what feels like forever I have let nicotine control my life. I wish I could go back to the day I was first handed a Juul, and walk the hell away. But I can't and that's ok. The one thing I can do is give it my all to quit this nasty habit. I have been preparing to quit for about two weeks and today was the day. Last night 8/11/19 at 8pm I took my last inhale and said goodbye to the thing has been controlling me for what feels like the longest time. I tossed everything I had in a trash bag and tied it in a knot 4 or 5 times. I kept myself busy for the rest of the night until I went to bed. I continued on my normal routine without the most normal part of my routine. I gathered up my quit kit. I picked out my favorite gum. I laid in bed and watched tv until I fell asleep. Jump ahead to the next morning, I'm still thinking about smoking. It really did take everything in me to get myself out of bed and directly in the shower without stopping to smoke. I have bit into several lemons today. Drank so much water I lost count of how many ounces. Done an unbelievable amount of jumping jacks. And gone through 3 packs of gum. The community on this site has been the biggest help. It sucked. It wasn't fun. I pictured myself smoking and how good it might feel. I definitely cried at times. But I didn't smoke, not once. I didn't think I could but I did. As I roll up on 8/12/19 at 8pm I can PROUDLY say that I have started a new chapter. A healthy chapter.

Your right it sucks big time going through this. I never want to go back to searching for a smoke somewhere anywhere I may have left a pack or going to the store late at night. You are doing everything right and you will get through this but it does suck in the beginning. The worst habit for me to break was driving and smoking I could not get one foot away from the house before I would have a smoke in my mouth and now I don’t even think about. Youtube is a great place to pass time I surf around that place all the time. If you type in your favorite band and the words full concert you might find something to keep you busy for a while and get some popcorn with a beverage for the concert.

Congrats...day 2 beginning. Stay near the site. This is not only a new chapter, its a new book for you. And the ending will be so much better since you quit smoking than it would be if you continued to smoke.

Kenzie it is absolutely great that you are here writing the beginning of your journey.  Just think you will be able to help someone else do what you have started.  The idea is to never give up no matter what. NOPE  Make a vow that you will not touch any smoking paraphernalia.  You are doing great.  It can take a lot out of you in the beginning but it is so worth all of the agonizing over the drug.  Stay close.  I have a feeling you will have a lot to contribute to this site.  Keep on keepin on.  Know that you can.  Believe that' you can.  Hang tough when you have to.  Come here often.  We are here to support you.  Don't quit on your quit.  The best is coming.

I am SO happy you have decided to take back your life at such a young age - and hopefully BEFORE the effects of the addiction become a health problem.  They are finding out more and more about the vapor produced by those devices, and the news is not good!

There is no doubt that the beginning days of the break for freedom are pretty awful - but the only way out is through.  Just take it a day (sometimes an hour) at a time and get through them the best way you can.  It WILL get easier - I promise!

On to Day TWO and beyond!

Congrats on the 1st day!  You are making the best decision for yourself at 19!!!!  I wish I had done the same.  If you don't quit all of the sudden you are coming up on 40 and don't realize where all that time goes and it was wasted smoking.

The discomfort and crappiness is the worst the first 3-5 days and gets better every day from there.  Think about how little time that is for things to start getting better and to get rid of a 2 year habit.  I had a 2 year quit that I lost and now I am back on day 17 so I just went through hell and heck week.  Already feeling much better.

Stick with it!!!!  You got this!!!

Happy day won!  Great planning, great follow through. If you keep working for your quit you will get to a place where not having nicotine every IS normal. And feels good. Keep up the good work.

SO PROUD of you for quitting while you are so young...you have no idea how many of us wish we had done that.  It IS going to get easier, that first day is a stinker...each day of freedom, you get stronger and you allow yourself to grow into the person you were meant to be.

CONGRATULATIONS, stay close to the site, we are here to help you in any way that we can.

We all want to help each other and we have all been given the love and support we needed when we started.  To have someone as young as you in recovery is wonderful.  You will be able to reach many people who may feel that we are a little out of touch although nothing could be further from the truth, LOL.

I am really glad that you are here.
