THE THERAPIST --  her name is Carol. "NO" to Wellbutrin, generic bupropion. I told her it would help with my NOT smoking. She thinks I should smoke during the holidays because that's what's making me depressed. I told her, just like alcoholism, I can start back but I don't know if I have  another recovery or QUIT in me. This is a wonderful woman and her wall has frames of every shape and kind on it. I was impressed but I'm NOT going to start back smoking.I will make it thru the weekend with y'all. Love y'all

Candy, I'm not a doctor or anything in the medical field and I personally don't agree with her. Don't smoke!

Is you therapist also a prescriber?  If not, you may want to call the MD to discuss your meds.  Care needs to be taken when combine multiple head meds.  If you possibly can, I would recommend that you take in some exercise, like a nice long walk outside.  This has been found to be beneficial in the treatment of depression, etc.

hang with us. start doing things a little differently. change it up. get off autopilot.

keeping your mind active by not being so automatic may keep you from falling into the old depression rut.

go walk around the block.

get a recipe offline that you've never tried. go get the ingredients and make it.

give that homeless person $5 if you can spare it.

things that make you feel good will make you feel good

Wellbutrin might make it a bit easier to not smoke, but if it has made you hypomanic in the past,  you might be 'up' for a while and then crash big into a deeper depression than you're in now.   Wellbutrin gave me anxiety and panic attacks. It's an amphetemine derivative. Some can tolerate it, some can't.

You are depressed BECAUSE you smoke.  Think of it that way.  Nonsmokers are not depressed when they are not smoking!

I've been so sad lately, and in reponse took deep, belly expanding breaths.  It helps, try it. Think: Breath in life sustaining oxygen, breathe out nicotine addiction.

Candy, like jojo I am not a Dr but I do take Bupropion Xl for depression and it did help when I quit.  I think that decision is up to you.  She must not be a smoker and if not she doesn't undestand how strong the addiction is. She is wrong about going ahead smoking because you are depressed, that will not help except for 5 minutes then it needs to be fed again.  Do whatever you fell is best.  Take care dear Lady and let me know if I can help you.

I think your therapist needs a therapist...who in their right mind would suggest continuing a deadly  addiction as a remedy? I think the fresh air is a great idea...Change it up like Dale said...Have you called your sponsor lady lately? xo

Seriously?  A therapist who prescribes smoking to alleviate your despression????

And if that therapist is a licensed physician, what about that oath that doctors take to "First, do no harm"?

I think Tommy hit the nail on the head.  Apparently that therapist is only looking at treating your depression, not your physical health and well-being as a whole.

But even so...what kind of a responsible health professional would ever recommend that someone start up smoking again??

Thank goodness, Candy, you are too smart to take THAT bad advice.

Thanks, all. Just got back from getting my hair done, and my stylist is a hoot. She had me laughing. Can't go walking because of the nerve damage in my feet. I will call my sponsor and go to my ladies' meeting tonight at 6. Will get some yarn tomorrow and start knitting a new baby blanket for the new baby. My husband needs a stint put in one of his heart vessels, so I might just stay here for Christmas. However, there's no smoking at my daughter's house and my husband still smokes. For some odd reason, it doesn't bother me like it used to. I'll see my psychiatrist in a week, and he does all my prescriptions. I can make it til then and see what he says. You don't have any idea what you mean to me, and I'm going to remain smoke free!!!!

I can't believe this! this is disturbing! She has some nerve to say you should smoke. Am happy to hear you're not even considering this crazy idea. We are always here for you. You will get through the holidays and have joy in your heart!!
