hi everyone, I am new here, and just signed up and set my quit date for August 1.  I know... it is a ways away, but for me, this give me time to seriously think about quitting and to psyched myself up for it.  Anyway... was wondering if anyone has tried the "patch," and if so, can you please provide some input as to how it has helped you with your cravings, etc.  Thanks in advance, Jeanine

Hello Jeanine thanks for friending me today.  Your pug is precious.  Thanks for trusting in me, I might have been weak yesterday but I can still advise.  i didn't do the patch. I started out cold turkey.  Anyway one thing I will never slide on is my need for helping others as that is what keeps me strong.  I am not a first time quitter.  Back in 1988 I quit for 6 months and then about 5 years ago I had quit for 2 weeks.   This time I quit on March 27.  It's funny I already feel strong again even after yesterday.  I guess that is what support can do.  Anyway let me know of anyway I can help.  Have a great day.

Listen to these, then see if you need the patch or not. there is also a good book called quitting the easy way by allen car.

get educated if you need contact call 1-800-lungusa

Go to my site, there is alot of homework there and go to HWC's site, enter the name in the search bar at the top right hand corner of the page.

I used nrts and you have to push them away the same way you did cigarettes, they helped me learn how to live without acigarette and the emotional reasons why I quit, i was in a program. If you use the patch you will still get nicotine but not the other 4,000 chemicals that come with cigarettes.

If you can do it cold turkey, you will lwssen the withdrawl time. MY experiience is different from alot of peple on thsi site, most do it cold turke with the info I just posted and are successful, I am successful to over 410 days without a cigarette. It all depends on your health I guess, if you've been told to quit, use the patch and stop as soon as you can. If you are storng and able, just quit and read allen carrs book and be happy about it here's alink to his site.

You are dealing with a life or death decision, take it like that, it's the truth, you have to succeed to live healthy and not die a suffocating long death. At whyquit.com there is a story about bryan, go there ato. Well you should be pretty busy how you take some advice and look into the sites and th links

I have tried the patch and the gum.  I would say the patch is ok but the gum works better.  When you've chewed the gum  for a while, after all the tingle is just about gone, it tastes awful.  It's a good reminder of what it takes to get some nicotine and that keeps me from wanting any more.

Also, Slash (from Guns n Roses and Velvet Revolver) used the gum to quit and he smoked heavily for a long time.

I tried the patch years ago. It made me dizzy and I still wanted to smoke. I had funny dreams 2. I wasn't able to quit with it. This time I tried the gum it was better than the patch but it seemed to stretch the with drawls out. I threw them out on my 4th day.

The patch may work for some, but I don't know any personally.

Missi- on my 21 day 🙂

I am a fan of the patch for the first few days or so. It just takes the edge off. Everyone is different, however. Just do your best to get the nicotine out of your system as quickly as possible, and take Azrec's advice and get educated.

I am on cold turkey day four, and have been okay so far! I think it's all mind over matter, and you can probably do without as long as you educate yourself like Aztec said. That is the key to success!

Hi everyone, thanks soo much!!  Great advise from all!!  I knwo I am not strong enough to quit cold turkey, but I will educate myself and will pick up  Allen Carrs book too.  Seems I have heard of this book before from a co-worker.  I will ask them if they still have it.  Again, thanks to everyone for their advice and input.  I'll get there one way or another. 🙂

Sorry I didn't use the patch. I did the cold turkey route. It worked for me, but others will have their own ways. The important thing is whatever works works...the goal is to be smoke free and nicotine free at some point. All the advice is good above. Like aztecs specifics. Educate, Execute, Ex-smoker you will be.   NOPE & NEF!

Hey Jeanine! I DID use the patch just as the box tells you to. It made it more of MY CHOICE to not have that cigarette- it gave me the chance to make a different decision. A cigarette crave can be an annoyance turning into an obsessive feeling, well the patch made it stay at just a little annoying and my mind could redirect easily. That's just my experience. I've been quit for 148 days and counting
