The Last Nail

I was talking to someone the other day that said they were wanting to quit smoking. I saw that they had a nearly full pack in their pocket.
I suggested that they should just crush the pack and soak it in a bucket of water.
Their answer was that they wanted to smoke "just one more pack" before giving them up.
Just one more .....
Is that just one more going to be the final nail in their coffin?
Is it going to be the one that starts a tumor becoming malignant?
Is it the one that will cause a massive heart attack?
Is it the one that will cause a debillitating stroke?
Is it the one that will cause COPD and other breathing problems.
That just one more sickorette can do more damage than you could imagine.
I found that out the hard way. I wasn't having any problems at all. I had to take an EKG so they could remove my Gallbladder because of what was termed "sludge" before stones began developing.
The tracing they got looked like an abstract painting by Picasso or one of the other Masters of that field.
After a visit to the Cath Lab, it was determined that I needed bypass surgery. One week after the results from the Catheterization, I was on the table for 12 hours. I was now the recipient of three new vessels to bypass the blockages.
I was lucky. Others never knew what was happening and are now gone.
If you know someone that is thinking of quitting, please feel free to share my story with them. You just might save them from that just one more.
Remember....
One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Thank you for sharing that Larry.  It describes my conversation with myself last night when I doused my unfinished pack of cigarettes and threw them away with the lighter.  I was telling myself that it was time to go to sleep and wake up to a beautiful new day.  The other me was saying why don't you just stay up and finish the pack since you won't be able to do that anymore.  I am grateful that the nicodemon lurking in my brain did not win.  It didn't matter how many were left in the pack.  It was 10:00pm and ready for bed.  I have not looked back and am putting one foot in front of the other.  Thanks again.

OldBones-Larry‌ Many years ago, my father was being screened for bypass surgery.  He had a strong history of heart issues.  When they did the chest xray as part of the pre-op screening, they found that he had lung cancer,  he was treated with radiation but he died two months after the diagnosis.  He had not smoked in many years but he did have COPD and he had been a smoker for many years.  It was a terrible loss to all of us.

About the Author
I am a male that underwent coronary artery bypass X3 (triple) on 10/22/13 at the age of 55. I was living on about 20-30% of one coronary artery and my left heart output was only 20% to 25%. I spent a week in the hospital after surgery and went home. Then had to go back a day later for another week because I had pneumonia. Finally a few days because of a slight arythmia. All told it has been about 2 1/2 weeks. I am past the cravings by now and only have the urges to contend with. I really don't suggest that anyone quits smoking using this technique though. I'll have to carry the scars from that day for the rest of my life. The large one down the center of my chest, and the ones from several "silent" infarctions. I came that close to the next world. Never again will I subject my body to that (at one point in my life I was smoking 5 packs of cigarillos a day). I now have to say N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) every day of my life.
