I've been smoke free for almost two days. But the weather is nice outside and I want to have a beer. I know if i drink I will want to take a few puffs. Any suggestions on what I can to to fight off my beer trigger? I've read what's on the Becomeanex.org site but I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions on what's helped them. Please don't tell me I am the only one that drinking beer is a trigger!!!!!

I uinderstand the feeling you are experiencing. I actually take nuts to the bar with me. So far it has worked when I see someone smoking Just turned my head or walked away from the bar. Good Luck

I know what you mean, stayed away from beer for a few about 2 weeks. It's definately a trigger. Take a deep breath count to 10 another deep breath, walk up and down some stairs (after you put down the beer of course!) and then smile

Hey shawn .i know what you mean.my first drinking weekend with out any smokes was a challenge.i did it by not drinking my usual amount..becasue i knew i would go all the way and get another pack. the second thing i did and Shawn you might not like what i tell you next but this is what i DO right now to this very day to enjoy my weekends.I keep listerine with me at all times...when that urges comes when iam drinking..i get my listerine.i spend 3 minutes with it and it has been great for my drinking on the weekend.now once you make past your first weekend with your beer. The accomplishment is a great feeling.. you really feel like i can do this.....so in essence you will have to do something Different at some point in time while you are drinking...it seems strange at first becasue i would stop on a dime and go to one of my stashes of listerine and be back ......you know when you drink that urge is going to come from your gums and when it does it is powerful and right then and then i would split wherever i was at becasue knew the mouth urge was about to drive me insane.i notice the listerine works for me because it kills it in my gums and whew after i make past that ONE moment iam back....but what ever you do dont drink your normal amount...you need to make it your first weeknd so you can build some confidence..Hey thanks for adding me as a friend and stay in touch.......

I drink regularly and it was a huge trigger of mine. It's kind of like smoking goes hand in hand with drinking. It can be very tough, but my biggest suggestion to you is to take a week or two off of the drinking while you are in the early quit month. I too was afraid I would want a smoke because I was having a drink. When I finally quit for good it helped a lot to skip the alcohol for the first two weeks. I also stayed away from my smoker friends and family for the first full week, it might sound a bit extreme or mean to your friends and family but if it helps you quit then I say do it! Whatever helps you quit! Best of Luck on your quit! Stay strong and keep breathing fresh air it's worth it!!!

I have been quit for 3 Months, 4 Weeks, 1 Day, 12 hours, 14 minutes and 51 seconds (119 days). I have saved $582.60 by not smoking 1,792 cigarettes. I have saved 6 Days, 5 hours and 20 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 11:30 PM

I felt the same way. But drank at bowling and no cravings.
