TRYING NOT TO GO BUY CIGARETTES

I got upsetting news last night and then 2 more really big disappointments. I've been a total crying mess all morning and haven't left my house because I want to smoke so bad. I have a patch on and have gum, and a vape if I want to use it.  I have 2 weeks tomorrow under my belt and all that little monkey keeps telling me is that one won't hurt me. I can't stop crying and I am obsessed.  I don't know what to do, I am really freaking out. I have no one to call.

That little monkey is lying to you. One does hurt. No need to go back to day one - you have two weeks and that is great. Congratulations!

Cry.  Let it out.  Beat up a pillow.  Smoking will not change anything nor make it better.  Smoking will only upset you more.  Hang in there.  It will pass.  Take deep breathes.  You've got two weeks under your belt! You are doing great!

I am sure that the news last night was upsetting, and that those 2 disappointments really hurt.  I am also quite sure a cigarette (or 2 or 3 or 10) will not help even one tiny bit.  It will just ruin that great 2 week quit you have going, and make you feel even worse than you do now.  And, I'm sure that in the future, you will experience more upsetting news and disappointments.  Unfortunately those don't stop .

Do me a huge favor and just do whatever it takes to get through the next hour.  Then, do whatever it takes to get through the hour after that.  Do you need any tips for crave busters, activities to do other than smoke, etc?

I understand.  I have been there.  I have a new quit date of June 1st because I went through what you are going through.  As many here know, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last August (she is doing GREAT now).  And there were a few other stresses in my life at the same time.  I was always the strong one, keeping in control, and using nicotine as my crutch.  As a result my quit failed.  I have tried to quit again a few times since, but have failed again.

I am kicking myself for my failure, and know that if I had worked through my issues I would not have thrown away 6 months of not smoking.  You can get through this.  Focus on the tears, and know that you are worth the long life that not smoking will give you.  Know that not smoking will give you something to celebrate in a week, or a month, or a year when you join the 6% club.  You can do this, and you can face the challenges that life throws at you.

You will come out the other side a better person.  And I will be asking you for support starting June 1st.  I need you there for me!

I know it's hard for you to have gotten this far, but you have proven you can do.  Honestly,  I was pretty upset myself this morning and It certainly crossed my mind to buy a pack.  I went to see a movie instead.  You can do it; we can do it.

You're doing great with 2 weeks. Stick with your quit. We know that when adversity strikes. smoking is all you can think about when you're newly quit. You can go on without smoking. Believe it when we tell you smoking helps nothing. Stick with it this will pass.

You can get through these difficulties without smoking. To get very troubling news two weeks into your smobriety is unfortunate timing, but you can stay smober. And you'll be all the stronger for it.

Don't give in to the addiction...nothing good will come of it.  Smoking will NOT change anything, it will not make your upsetting news less upsetting.  There is NOTHING wrong with crying!

Hi,

Thank you for checking in. Every day is different. I am day 24 and have had a couple sneak attacks that threw me off guard. I’ve stayed strong, truly, because of all of the things I have read here. It means so much to have this support. Today has been tough.

I am SO PROUD of you for protecting your quit, there are ALWAYS going to be good days and bad days and sometimes, there will seem to be a run of bad days.  PLEASE know that smoking will not fix anything!

I am glad you stayed strong and protected your quit! You do not want to reintroduce smoking into your system and lose all you have accomplished. Trust me, I recently did just that and regret it big time. Cigarettes do not fix anything, they just give you an additional problem to deal with.

Great to hear Tess!  I hope today is a better day so far!

Hi Tess.  So glad to hear you've reached day 24.  Huge accomplishment.  I'm really proud of you for protecting your quit. Keep staying close to us.

Blessings
