TRASHED IT AGAIN

broke my 4 day quit, stupid reason too. I did'nt have anything else to do.... it's always the lamest excuse that talks me into it. the good news is i plan on re-starting the quit, back at day one again.

but i wanted to ask for advise. the last several quits that i've tried have been with the patch. the problem comes in when I hit a craving and have taught my self how to take them off. plus it think that sustaining the nicoteen in my system is'nt helping my case any extra.

has anyone done it with the cold turkey? whats the best way to get going with that and what did you use to keep your self from vaporizing the known world during a craving?

please help with you're advise..

thanks

glyn

I used the patch more as a mental security blanket for 10 of the first 14 days of my quit.

Its just supposed to be an aid so thats all I made it in my thoughts.

On the 4 days I forgot, I just said, hey try it. See what its like without the patch.

Listen to your body. Make the quit happen on your terms not, nocitines.

Its mind over memories.

For me the only way was cold turkey. I have been quit since May 22 2008. U have to be very strong minded on it. Believe me the nico demon is going to try to get you every way he can. just take a deep breath and let it out slowly and find something to do to get your mind off it. I would throw a cinnamon candy in my mouth and get on the net...on here or where ever so that I have to type. so my hands and my mind were busy.

I used the patch for a few weeks. The instructions  say  you are supposed to "step down" your nicotine dose twice over a ten week period. I used them for about three weeks, stepped down my dose, wore those for about a week. Then I  stopped wearing them altogether, mainly because I was sick of slapping  those sticky things on my arm, and I found the cravings were tolerable after that.

Glyn, you're okay. You've just got to figure out what works for you. You made it 4 days and those are the hardest! Get back up there and stay in the saddle this time,  partner.

Cold turkey here. After 38 years of smoking. I was so excited to go 24 hours without nicotine that I wanted to keep it going. I knew, in my heart, the morning of the third day, that I had proved to myself I could quit and that I would never take another puff. It was pretty exciting.

Once you get to that place mentally, the aggravation of the nicotine withdrawal and retraining all the triggers is just something you accept, no different than accepting the discomfort of healing from a broken wrist.
