Good morning all! I am new to this website, it was recommended to me by my doctor. I have began my 4th attempt to quit today. I am using Chantix this time and just started the medication today. I have set my quit date to be April 20th, that way the medication has time to build up in my system. I am wondering if anyone else has or is currently using it and what has been your outcome with it? Thanks for the help and information.

have a fantastic day!

Hello Jenny and welcome to EX!!! I LOVE your doctor for being so insightful and supportive! This is truly a wonderful site...the support here and some work on my part have enabled me to have 150 days quit today...It wasn't always easy but it was MUCH easier than I thought it would be...We all start out with some suggested reading as education about the addiction makes all the difference so you understand what your mind and body are going through and learn how to develop the mind set for being free...xo

Hello Jenny. Good for you making the decision and commitment to quit. I am on Day 40, and using Chantix. This site is definitely a wonderful support mechanism, but I feel the Chantix takes just enough of the edge off to make it completely tolerable. I did the prescribed 2 pills per day for the first 6 weeks. But ended up cutting out the morning pill because it made me so nauseous. Working great with just the evening pill. Good luck.

Hi Jenny,

Welcome to EX.

You have a smart doctor. He knows where all the action is.

You will get great information here on quitting and how to stay quit. You will get great support here. Just yell and people will come a running.

It will be up to you to do your homework. (All the reading that is suggested). And I also suggest that you listen to the EXperts and elders here on EX. There may be some advice that you don't want to hear at times, listen anyway. The addicted mind likes to take over and be the boss.

Chantix can be a great quit aid. Using that and all the other tools of support and education will help you be successful.

I'm glad you are here.

I used Chantix to aid in the beginning of my quit, but I had to stop taking it because of allergic skin reactions in the form of hives. I took it for two weeks and quit smoking on day 10 of using it.  I know the chantix helped  to take a lot of the fear out of quitting, even though I believe it was like a placebo effect.   I thought, ok I'm taking these pills, they will make it easier for me not to smoke, so therefore it was a little easier, even when I stopped taking the chantix. I don't think the chantix works unless you are truly ready to go through the mental process of letting go of cigarettes, so its important to read and learn as much as you can about nicotine addiction in the meanwhile.  Don't let fear stop you and good luck.  Being on this site is an awesome step, its made a big difference for me.

Hi Jenny and welcome to this site. Boy do you bring back memories for me! I started using Chantix in August 2012, which is when I quit smoking. I did not complete the program as I felt after a month or so, I did not need them anymore. I remain a non smoker today. If you can handle it, take the Chantix. But I do recommend that you educate yourself on nicotin addiction as much as you can. Stay close to this site because there is always someone who has or is going through whatever you are dealing with where quitting is concerned and can help.Congratulations on your decision to quit.
