Every year I tell myself I am going to quit smoking and every year I cut back a little but I never completely stop. I know I need to for my health and to be around for a long time for my family but darn it, it's hard! How many times have you started over??? I can't even remember how many times I've tried to quit...sometimes I feel like such a failure

Lots of people on here have tried numerous times and eventually made it!  You can too.  Support can make a huge difference.  It did for me anyway.  You were here over a year ago.  What did you do the last time around? Why didn't it stick?  What you are you going to do this time that's different?  Whta do YOU think you need to accomplish your smoke-free goal?

Quitting has to become a priority if you want to overcome the addiction.  It takes self-discipline and work.  That's just what's so.  It's a skill.  And can be mastered like any other skill.  The amount of effort you put in will be commensurate with the success you reap.  Half-hearted attempts will always lead to failure.  You have to be 100% committed.  That's what it takes.  What do you say?  Are you wiilling?

Hello, and Welcome to EX! We are so glad you are here! This is a great place to quit smoking. You have been given links to great information and good advice above. Please do the readings and listen to the Elder's (folks with 1 year + quit) They know a lot about this addiction. Education, willingness to do whatever it takes not to smoke, determination and commitment are the keys to a successful quit!

I would like to recommend a group (that is featured on our home page) called The Daily Pledge Group. It's fun and will help reinforce your commitment not to smoke!

Just click on the link below and scroll down and take the person's hand before you and promise not to smoke! You can state your # of days, post a picture or whatever you want! This is your quit be proud of it! Please join us!

Dennis -- I also "tried" to quit many times, but I quit for good when I read the Allen Carr book and really understood that I was giving up NOTHING.  As long as you feel deprived when you don't smoke, you will put yourself through torture when you're not smoking.  If you grasp that we are addicts, that when we smoke we will only be satifying the craving we created when we smoked the last one you CAN quit and stay quit.  Yes, you will have craves even if you know that smoking is nothing.  But those are just the expected result of relearning life without cigarettes.  I don't mean to sound like it's not a big deal.  It's a VERY big deal, and attitude is everything.  I finally quit smoking after 53 years of being a total smoking addict, and I'm a year and three months into my forever quit.

Wow! What a great support system on this site! I was hesitant to blog because I'm not very computer savvy so I'll admit I do have my wife help me some with it. She works on a computer all day and has mad typing skills so she types while I dictate.

When her work first started this whole quit smoking program initiative it made me mad because I wasn't ready to quit and I felt like I was being forced. I'm still not sure I will be 100% ready to quit on my quit date but I'm going to try. I have a great support system so I'm going to give it my best shot.

I have made several strides in the right direction and have cut the number of cigs I have per day in half in the last few months. Of course when the stress monster attacks I have weak moments. It's finding a way to beat that monster. This time I think I just might.
