Some Distractions For the Early Days

Well, I'm a big authority now that I've reached Day 6, but here's what I've learned. Drinking lots of water, eating fresh fruit, (both these things keep me from feeling hungry and thinking of a cigarette), wasabi-soy almonds (spicy enough to be distracting and it only takes a couple) and brain games. I have had a membership to lumosity.com for a year now. It does cost money (about 1/2 month's worth of cigarettes per year for me) but they offer a free trial period that may be enough to help someone through the first few days. And it's fun and (should I use this word?) addictive. That's my six days' worth of wisdom on the subject of getting through the early days of quitting.

Great job! It so helps to have a plan and stick to it, whatever is working at every stage. Always nice to see people blog what IS working for them so others can get ideas too! When the real freedom hits we don't have to jump through any more hoops or dodge any more balls, we just simply get to live life without thinking about smoking anymore...fabulous, right? Keep going, protect that quit! 🙂

Spider solitaire, huh? Maybe I should try that. I listen (lately) to Bonnie Raitt - she's great for singing at the top of my lungs in the car with the windows up. I'm glad you're there, Cindy.

Your opinion is so very important. People just quitting can relate to you alot better than they could with me because you're alot closer.....know what I mean? I love Bonnie Raitt too! I'll tell you a feel-good CD that I'm listening to right now....Van Morrison/Still on Top-The Greatest Hits.

Oh, Edith and David, somehow I missed these great music bits - I love Van Morrison too. Actually, Edith, your opinion is the voice of success and experience as far as quitting is concerned, so I hope you keep right on speaking up. People do listen to you. I do.
About the Author
Born in S. California and raised there and in Arizona, I moved to the Midwest with my ex and just haven't moved back. I started life in nurses training, though didn't finish (that's where I started smoking - I had a roommate who smoked and hospital cafeteria food helped pack on the "freshman 15" so I decided to stop eating soda crackers to deal with the very real stress and started smoking. The nurses' and doctors' dining hall where we ate our meals was smoke-filled - everyone seemed to be smoking in the '60's.
